Jason Mihalko recalls April 15, 2013 - and his decision to call every one of his patients:

I felt that had I not contacted my patients, I would have engaged in a human error that I could not recover from. I would have been neglectful of my patients and would have violated everything that I believe in about the therapeutic enterprise.

I would have missed my patients--dropped them--and had not been present at an important time in the world. I would have been hiding at a time that I needed to be present.

Four days later the bombs came again.

A Chelsea family who claims reporter Michele McPhee ruined their lives by linking them to Dzokhar Tsarnaev and Islamic jihadists after the Boston Marathon bombings has sued McPhee, media outlets that picked up her account and a noted Islamaphobe in federal court.

In the lawsuit, filed this week in US District Court in Boston, the Umarov family is seeking $5 million in compensation and another $100 million in punitive damages from the defendants. Read more.

Transit Police officer wounded in hunt for Tsarnaevs to retire due to his injuries

Dic Donahue, critically wounded in Watertown in April, 2013, announced his retirement from the Transit Police Department today:

Following my injury, I committed myself to returning to active service in the department. It took nearly two years to accomplish that goal, fighting through pain and limitations, but I had a lot of help from some amazing doctors, my family, and my fellow officers. I did not want it to be taken from me without a fight. Unfortunately, I must now acknowledge the extent of my injuries and limitations. Physically, I cannot perform at 100 percent and must do what is right for myself, my co-workers, and my department. Therefore, I will step away from the job that I love so much.

JP woman admits lying to get Marathon bombing money

Joanna Leigh, 41, of Jamaica Plain, today pleaded guilty to five counts of larceny over $250 by false pretenses for accepting almost $40,000 in cash and other benefits intended for survivors of the Boston Marathon bombings even though she was not near the explosions. Read more.

As expected, a federal judge sentenced Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death today. Associated Press reports Tsarnaev rose and apologized to his victims.

Dic Donohue returns to duty - and a promotion

Dic Donohue, the Transit Police officer injured in the gun battle with the Tsarnaevs that Friday after the Marathon bombings, returned to work today - and a promotion to sergeant. His parents put his collar insignia on at a ceremony this morning at Transit police headquarters.
