Matthew Gilberti captured this charming South End scene this morning, reports three BPD cruisers, including the one pictured, drove by the snow-covered car without stopping its driver.

That’s because BPD is useless
That’s because BPD is useless when it comes to traffic enforcement.
That’s because BPD is busy
That’s because BPD is busy with actual crimes
because
cars don't have to follow rules for the most part. am i right?
Get the L out
Last name is "Giberti", no l.
Cut BPD some slack
They’re busy focusing on real public safety issues like drinking on a restaurant patio during a parade. Besides, if they had to get out of their patrol cars to do some actual policing, or god forbid write a ticket, their fingers might get cold.
Perhaps they don’t see it
This could be a case of the driver clearing off the front windshield and leaving the rest.
Conversely, the light is green and clearly the Gilberti is driving a car while taking a photograph.
Could be a dash cam
Depending on where in the car you put it, it could be a dash cam.
it could be a dash cam
maybe he is wearing it strapped to his head? or maybe its on the steering wheel? having it on the steering wheel probably would miss a lot of stuff happening outside the car.
very surprised to hear swirly defending a demonic car driver/murderer.
Really?
I have problems with bad drivers.
I have problems with driving being so sacred that it is killing our communities.
I have problems with driving being mandatory because of our backward transportation policies.
I also own a car AND A DASH CAM and said dash cam can be moved aside in a single swipe.
Stop huffing your tailpipe, hon - bad for you!
Now that was a world class
Now that was a world class retort.
Right?!? How could the cops
Right?!? How could the cops see the back windshield from over there?
Take another look at the photo
The police car are passing by the front of the car in question. Please explain to me how they can see the back of the car?
By the way, I’m not defending Mr. Lazybones. It would take two minutes tops to clear that snow. I’m just saying that cops don’t have super snow vision.
Look again
Mr Lazybones has a green light so BPD has a red light. If Mr Lazybones continues straight or takes a right BPD could easily see him. If Mr Lazybones took a left there is a slight chance BPD could notice if he/she is paying attention. With that said I believe there is a good chance BPD was probably on their cell or texting.
I’m agreeing with you
I’m agreeing with you
Doesn't matter
You're in for an argument now, kid.
Nah
I read it wrong. I was corrected. We’ll move on.
In MA
You technically only need 2 operational mirrors. Can’t see out of the back of a panel can either...
Canadian Road Rage
Obligatory.
Not obligatory in any way
But thanks. I almost missed it the 20 times it's been posted on reddit.
It happens everywhere not just here
When a New Yorker calls someone a Masshole it should come with a disclaimer
BPD dedicated traffic Unit
Making the case for the creation of a dedicated traffic enforcement unit. When your mission is traffic enforcement and you and your supervisors are judged on how well you accomplish this officers become much focused accomplishing that mission.
Cambridge has a fairly large unit capable of targeted enforcement in troubled areas.
We've got that on the North
We've got that on the North Shore. It's become an excuse for the other units to ignore everything from double parking to crosswalk violations. i've ridden right behind the cruisers when they drive by blatent violations. No accountability or recourse possible even reporting the cruiser number and time.
Should have also gotten the number of the cop car
not that it would have made a difference or anything.
How about actually calling
How about actually calling the cops instead of endangering even more people by taking pictures while driving
"Calling the police"
isn't going to get anything done. In Mass, the correct and only respectable response is to work your way in front of the offending car and jam on the brakes. Since your back glass is clean, you can pinpoint that exact moment when the other driver is "momentarily" not paying attention and wouldn't you know it, that pedestrian stepped out at the same moment! The other car must have never seen it coming because, well, they couldn't see it coming. When you get out of the vehicle make sure the camera is rolling and documenting the other snow encrusted car and if nothing else make sure to mention your back and neck hurt as well for later litigation.
