The Boston Sun reports a deli worker at the Marlboro Market, on Marlborough Street at Mass. Ave., was charged earlier this month after an undercover cop gave her a $20 bill and she reached into a bag behind the counter and gave him "one pre-rolled marijuana cigarette."

I thought legalization would bring down the prices. She should've known only a cop would pay $20 for one joint.

Yes the joint is $16, but then you have a $2.50 service fee and $1.50 handling charge and bingo you're at $20.

Have you ever bought bud on the west coast? 5 bucks a gram and the quality is superior.

1gram joints are about $12 for medical card holders, more if recreational due to markup and high tax.

The minute the new owners took over they cleared out all the food items and the one table in the place converting it into a nip bottle dispensary and a pipe shop. Even though I felt bad for the old staff, I understand the nature of the business but I never took to the place and pretty much boycotted it, hearing nothing but bad things over the past couple of months.
Nothing new that folks want to jump on the retail marihuana buzz but it doesn't make any sense to do illegally, in your store, when you already have a license to sell booze.

I know other stores that do something like this and I am not surprised. The state and the city really blew their chance with that 2+ year gap after the voters voted to legalized it. I have seen vape carts that go for $55-$60 at a medical dispensary given out as a "free gift" for $35. People got restless.

pretty sure that the employee was also fired for other reasons; these I know because I overheard it being discussed in the store, and then I asked, and I was told what happened. The employee was nice, but obviously having some "reason" why they couldn't act responsibly. The other guy working there has always been helpful. I think it is the case that the deli was removed because they don't have enough staff right now to operate the deli and the store.
Hope this place can get back on track. I bought a sandwich there once, and it was good.
they're in way bigger trouble than selling weed

report from boston 311 yesterday; they're plastic bag ban violators
https://311.boston.gov/reports/H298784-101002850069
Name/address of the store: Marlboro Market | Details: They are illegally charging customers for plastic bags. I told them that plastic bags are now banned in The City of Boston. The person behind the counter said that they don't care about that Law and actually charged me money for the plastic bag! Please send someone there from ISD to investigate.

They may not be violating the bag law. The law's being done in phases - small stores were given more time to start complying with it (so they could use up their stock of bags, maybe?): Stores between 10,000 and 20,000 square feet will have until April 1 to worry about snap plastic-bag inspections; smaller stores until July 1.
But charging 5 cents for an old-fashioned plastic bag? Now that's cheeky.

Being charged five cents for a plastic bag makes a heck of a lot more sense than being given a five cent rebate for having your own bag, if the point is to make people think about the effects of plastic bags. Look at it this way, if I walk up to you and ask if you want a nickel, you probably ignore me, very little chance you are interested in my nickel. But if I start reaching into your pocket to try and find a nickel there and take it from you, you'll definitely take notice.

The $0.05 charge is mandated by the law. And stores can keep using re-usable plastic bags or plastic bags that are compostable - not that most convenience stores will bother with such.

Fortunately I have been using tote bags for years for groceries so it's just a matter of bringing one to the corner stores as well.
