Lyft driver robbed at gunpoint in Roxbury; suspect arrested

Boston Police report arresting a Dorchester man on charges he held up a Lyft driver on Codman Park in Roxbury with a loaded gun around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday.

According to police, the driver had arrived at 86 Codman Park for a requested pick up when David Walker, 20, got in the back of the car, "pulled out a firearm, and pointed it at the victim before demanding the victim’s cell phone and cash."

Police say the driver complied and Walker got out and ran towards Washington Street.

Additional units arrived at the scene and began to search for the suspect and eventually located two males in the area of Academy Road. Officers approached the males, one of whom matched the description of the suspect who was found to be in possession of a Smith and Wesson .38 caliber firearm loaded with five rounds of live ammunition. The suspect was taken into custody. Officers also located a cell phone belonging to the victim as well as his wallet, both of which were returned to the victim. The second male was identified and released from the scene.

Walker was charged with unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, armed robbery and firearm violation with a prior violent or drug crime conviction, police say.

Innocent, etc.

Assuming it was he who summoned the Uber, they would have his contact info. Plus, Uber drivers aren't like cabbies who might carry around a couple hundred dollars with them. An Uber driver would likely have the same amount on them as any random person on the street (that is, not a ton.)

Excellent work by the BPD to catch the guy so quickly!

Walker up.

Secondly, even though Walker was apprehended through a tip-off from a couple of other guys in the area, and the stolen cell phone and wallet returned to the victim, Walker should still be tried for and charged with armed robbery, and put behind bars for awhile.
