Man charged for alleged role in attempted ambush murder on Waumbeck Street in Roxbury

Naje Duchard, 19, of Roxbury, was arraigned today on charges he was one of three gunmen who ambushed a man talking to a relative on Waumbeck Street at Crawford Street around 1:30 a.m. on July 21, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Duchard was ordered held without bail until at least an Aug. 4 hearing, on charges that include armed assault with intent to murder, the DA's office says. The victim remains hospitalized in critical condition; should he die, Duchard would be charged with murder, the DA's office adds.

According to the DA's office:

The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was riding on a scooter on Waumbeck Street in Roxbury and had stopped to talk to a relative when several gunmen appeared on foot and opened fire. The victim was struck multiple times. A Boston Police officer heard the gunshots, rushed to the scene and pursued the alleged assailants who were running toward a vehicle.

The officer eventually caught up with the three in Codman Park, where they ditched their car, then tried to run away. The officer fired his gun during the pursuit, but did not hit anyone.

Innocent, etc.
