Any reason why they didn’t just have it at the Hynes in the first place?

Because Fenway is more exciting than some convention center.

The state wasn't renting it or paying for it, since it is a private facility.

I think that the state and people getting vaccinated would be better served if the Fenway Park site was moved to the BCEC instead of the Hynes. Plenty of parking at BCEC and easily accessed from main highway there as opposed to the Boylston street location of the Hynes.

of the Fenway/Hynes site that in-city people can easily get there by transit? People with cars can go to Gillette Stadium and other car-oriented sites.

Much better transit access at Hynes AND it's literally on top of an exit ramp from a major interstate highway...

The highway literally goes under it. If you look at the floor plan, it actually straddles the Pike.

If you're coming from the west on the Mass Pike, you can literally drive off the highway directly into the Prudential Garage. The garage is probably not that crowded these days, with office and hotel occupancy and mall visiting all way down from pre-pandemic times.

From other directions it's not quite as easy since there is no westbound Mass Pike exit at Copley, but it's still a pretty short drive down Kneeland Street and St. James Avenue from the Southeast Expressway or Central Artery.

It is at the far end of BosVegas, a place designed for cars. The idea of transit exists there, but the reality is a total joke.

But we aren't vaccinating cars - we are vaccinating people. And there are plenty of other options for drivers.
