Eight-alarm fire destroys building on Corey Road in Brighton; firefighter injured, smoke shuts nearby Brookline school
Boston firefighters responded to a commercial building at 185 Corey Rd. in Brighton at 4:30 a.m. for what turned into an eight-alarm fire.
One firefighter was injured at fire at the Music Makers Studios building, the Boston Fire Department reports, adding Fire Commissioner John Dempsey ordered firefighters off the roof and out of the building.
At times, the smoke became so thick firefighters outside had zero visibility.
Because of all the smoke, Brookline shut the Driscoll School for the day. The Brookline Fire Department sent trucks to join the battle.

Smoke
Walking up Beacon St this morning (about 6:30am), there was heavy smoke almost all the way to Coolidge Corner.

Tragic news
Zippah & Music Makers are awesome, Brian & Bob are such great guys and staff.. Recorded and practiced at both… plus’s all the small businesses there…
What are the small businesses
What are the small businesses? There’s a sign for a dance school. Also several 70s and 80s cars are usually parked outside in Street View.
Sad
Looks liked it was a nice place where people worked hard on making it that way. I hope they were well insured and the best instruments had gone home with their owners.
Fires that burn electrical equipment are the worst. So noxious.
Corey hill fire
This will be the second time this place caught fire. I think it happened in the early 80's
That sucks. Those guys have
That sucks. Those guys have been around for a long time. And more than one band probably lost their master tapes in this fire.
indeed.
there were a few pretty old masters in there. Dinosaur Jr. comes to mind right away.

Adam, The BPS School (Baldwin ELC) near by moved classes to Brighton High today.
Old stable
According to the old Bromley atlases, the building used to be a stable for the H. P. Hood Company. The old wooden beams were probably soaked with all sorts of stuff over the years, making it very flammable.
The smell
We could smell this one all the way to the Mission Park/Longwood Medical area. Had to check the whole complex to make sure it wasn't in Mission Park.
