Worker killed in garage collapse identified; he loved his work

Peter Monsini

The family of Peter Monsini, 51, who died while working to help take down the Government Center Garage on Saturday issued a statement today:

We are in shock and trying to process the loss of Peter. He was a loving son, brother, father, uncle and friend. He was full of life, passionate, thoughtful, and will be missed deeply by his family and partner Alicia. We want to thank the Boston Police, Fire and EMS and all responders who came to Peter’s aid. We also want to thank Operating Engineers Local 4 as well as our neighbors, friends and well-wishers near and far for the kind words we have received. As we begin to come to grips with our loss, we respectfully request privacy and peace at this time.

WBZ interviewed his cousin, who said Monsini just loved demolition work.

Although Boston Police have re-opened streets around the garage, the MBTA is still not letting Orange Line and Green Line trains and buses on three routes pass through Haymarket station until structural engineers say that they remain safe following the collapse of several floors of the garage, which sits atop the station, and which was being taken down to make way for a skyscraper as part of the Bulfinch Crossing project.

The Monsini family is well known in Brockton, and Peter was a classmate. I wish the family peace through this awful time.
