Boston offers block-party starter kits
By adamg on Tue, 07/19/2022 - 12:00pm
Boston has started a pilot program to lend out block-party starter kits to residents on streets organized enough to throw themselves a party.
In fact, the city has two kits available, a "game kit" with jump ropes, hula hoops, a "Goodminton game," and a Slam Ball set, and a "cool kit" with water balloons, bubbles, water hoses and a "Splash Tower." Both come with sidewalk chalk, signs and bubble wands.
To get one or both of the kits, you have to apply for a block-party permit first.
Food and drinks not included.

Just a trip to NH border and we are all set.
What, no steel-tipped lawn darts? These
games have no stakes! If you don't risk maiming or death, what's the point?

Tito has other plans for block parties
And exactly how tiny are those football, basketball and soccer balls? They appear to be stocking staffers for 4 year olds
In case anyone else is curious...
A "Splash Tower" is like a reverse dunk tank. It suspends a bucket of water over your head and people try to hit a target to tip the bucket onto you.

I love the idea but am curious about the durability of these items I see. How many times can they be loaned out before they are in rough shape ? Overall it's a good idea though
Cheapskate
Indeed - how many block parties are there that the city can't just give these out this year?
Curious what a block party permit entails. We close off a small side street, and it takes 3 days and at least 8 in-person visits to get all the permits needed, the city is so insane.
