Pickleball-adjacent housing proposed in Jamaica Plain
By adamg on Thu, 05/23/2024 - 4:44pm
Jamaica Plain News reports a developer wants to convert the two Penshorn Roofing buildings on Carolina Avenue, off South Street in Jamaica Plain into nine residential buildings.
If built, the apartments or condos would be just the thing for pickleball players, who could roll out of bed right into the courts used for pickleball matches - the ones with the purple fences - at South and Carolina.

Great location for JP
Great location for JP dwellers. Not only pickleball courts but also tennis courts and a children's playground to let your dog run.
If you let your dog on
a kids playground, you’re a self entitled asshole.
What if it is a good boy?
What if it is a good boy?
Christ on a cracker...
Who wants to live next to pickleball courts? Surely not the folks of Wellesley nor this city dweller
Deity on a Disc
Not everything needs to be built for you! I tire of the thwop thwack thwop thwack from the local park, but I also have no problem if someone wants full proximity to their thwopthwacking hobby.
We're still talking about..
Pickleball? ;)
DONT DO IT
Don’t.
We need a Pop Up Pickle
We need a Pop Up Pickle Pushcart at the Pocket Park!!!
sorry to lose my roofer, but...
I'm sorry to lose my roofer, but...adaptive reuse of these handsome structures is the best I could've imagined. I hope the new addition is respective to both the street scale + existing buildings' design. Fingers crossed!
meh
From a YIMBY/urbanist perspective that site could support more density than what's being proposed. This plan is better than nothing, I guess.
They most certainly would
They most certainly would build more but are stopping short of the limit that would require them to meet inclusionary zoning regulations. Unfortunately the inclusionary zoning requirements have the consequence of making it unprofitable for a developer to build more units.
