Say, anybody missing a snake?

Python snake

Young python at the Boston animal shelter.

The Boston city animal shelter in Roslindale is now home to a young python, brought there after somebody found it Monday somewhere along Washington Street in Brighton - so somewhere between Brookline and Newton.

If Snakey looks familiar, contact Animal Care and Control at 617-635-1800 or [email protected].

Most of the rats have been eating things that would harm or kill the poor albino Ball Python. (Just like birds.)

Ball Pythons are great snakes. They are the golden retrievers of pet snakes -- friendly, harmless, and often timid.

That said, every time I open UHub and see that large photo, I initially think it's a photo of a sausage.

Hope it finds its way home soon.

I did look at an apartment up that way back during my misspent youth. The potential roommate had snakes, which would not have bothered me, but he seemed a little put out about the idea of a cat...

But that was *muttermublemuble* decades ago, so I doubt he's (and/or his snakes) are still in that unit.

Ball Pythons can live 20-30+ years in captivity with a suitable enclosure and feeding schedule.

They only need a meal (rat) every 5 weeks or so. Overfeeding is what often reduces their lifespan. Unfortunately, many breeders overfeed in an effort to increase reproduction.
