They wuz robbed

OK, Christopher's of Maynard got the most votes at today's Chowderfest. You want my opinion? The heat got to too many people. I'm sorry, Farmer Brown and his wife, Mrs. Brown, above, had the best chowder today (if you discount Turner Fisheries, which is in the "Hall of Fame" and so ineligible for votes). No, I'd never heard of them before, either and Farmer Brown runs a farm stand in Middleton, not a restaurant, but they know from chowder.

Of course, I can't clam up about the annual event on City Hall Plaza:

The reason people plunk down $10 on a hot and humid July day is to eat hot chowda:

This giant chicken wandered around the Chowderfest. Not a clue what he was advertising; I think he was really just looking for plump little kids for a potpie:

Outside the eating grounds, you could see that a Southwest jet must've taken a wrong turn (at least the pilot didn't try to take Storrow Drive):

Toyota won the "What Were They Thinking?" award with their "Save the planet; drive a hybrid" exhibit, in which they used an 18-wheeler to bring in some hybrids and a bunch of exhibits designed to test your knowledge of Toyota hybrids (including two Prius simulators). One of the guides looked longingly out the window:

The Chicken was advertising Chicken Bone, the chowder place.

The original Chicken Bone in Framingham is a fun place with bands & music, with no cover, and excellent chicken wings.

Has anyone been to the new place near Fenway?
Do they still have bands without charging a cover?

No live music. Lots of video screens set to NESN, ESPN etc. I don't believe they have a full bar license, just beer and "wine". Sidewalk patio overlooking beautiful, serene Boylston St (ack, cough). College kid servers, some ok, some wretched.

Overall: Meh.

the music is what makes that place such a fun spot!

The reason we threw down ten bucks on a hot day for chowda is because we are Bostonians and that is what we do. We eat chowda on hot days.

I guess everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Farmer Brown, It's obvious that you should stick to the fields.
Every year, restaurants work for days preparing chowder so that they can be part of this great tradition. Have a little class and be a gracious loser.
I tasted your version of chowder and wasn't impressed at all and infact heard similar comments from others.

Hat's off to all that worked for days and in the heat of yesterday to give us something that we so enjoy.

Congratulations to all of the winners.

If you took the time to actually read the post here, you'd notice that Adam Gaffin wrote it with his personal opinion of who should've won. Farmer Brown had nothing to do with this post other than cooking the chowder that Adam liked in the first place.

Is reading comprehension really that hard? Or are you the kind of person who writes personal fan letters to movie stars on their IMDB entry page?

My first job right out of school was cooking on the Odyssey dinner cruise boat. I had the misfortune to be helping the Chef prepare for Chowderfest. In the airless galley, with 6 burners going full blast, lugging around 8 gallon pots of boiling chowder. Then hauling it all down the gangway and dock, Rowes Wharf was like steam bath. It hardly seemed to matter that we didn't win, I made a solemn promise to not be working there the following summer. Far better to be at Legal Seafoods where we cut open sealed plastic tubes of ready-made "heat in the bag" chowder.

Good grief Boston, just move the damn thing to the fall or winter already.

Christopher's must've stuffed the ballot box...in the vein of any good (read successful) vote in the City of Boston.

How else could they have won? Wasn't their's the one with all the dill in the recipe? Ughh...I don't even understand how they got in the show.

Farmer Borwn's was okay...but the corn's sweet taste thru it off...unless of course it was SUPPOSED to be a cornchowder fest...not a clamchowder fest...

Complete agreement with prior post: hands down best was Turners...not even a contest.

Campbell's isn't good enough for you?

Just kidding. I prefer Snow's.
