Conviction in 2007 South End murder
A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Juan Figueroa, 25, of fatally stabbing John Austin following an argument on Austin's parenting skills, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office announced.
Figueroa and his girlfriend, the mother of Austin's young son, were picking the kid up from a scheduled visitation at Auston's Castle Court apartment on March 11, 2007, when Figueroa said Austin should "be a better father." That led to an argument that ended when:
The 5'11", 205-pound Figueroa grabbed the 5'5", 143-pound Austin around the head, produced a knife, and began to stab him.
Prosecutors showed Figueroa stabbed Austin five times, once through the heart. He then fled and was found in Westfield. He was convicted of second-degree murder.

Things are getting worse
It looks as though this type of news that is coming out of the different courts throughout the country, and that of a number of others, has been on the rise in recent years.
It amazes me that we, as a society, haven't started to seriously clamp down on people who, in all realism, commit mindless violence. I mean, how can someone have an argument with their partner and then end up murdering them - it shows that things are getting worse even when individuals carry knives and guns around with them in the aid of 'protection'.
A couple of years ago you would have seen one individual give their partner a few slaps across the face and then in a couple of hours end up making up and all was forgiven, now they insist on causing 'hell' and making sure that the other person doesn't get up when they've gone down.
If this is a couple of grown adults who are acting this way, then it is no wonder that many of the kids around at the moment have knives on the all of the time and aren't afraid to threaten and actually use them on others.
