According to OCPF filings (today is the last day of July): Kenneally raised only $5,400 in July, well behind Pressley (over $20K), Jackson ($18K), Ezedi ($17K) and Arroyo ($15K).

Who's in the first tier of candidates again? I wish him well with his coffee & donuts in Southie, but he's got work to do to keep pace with the frontrunners.

i read from his facebook that he is opening up a campaign office, whcih is why he is offering the free coffee and donuts. call me crazy, but opening an office doesn't sound like he's slowing down... have other candidates opened offices?

So, add the amount raised in July to what was raised previously and you get quite a different picture. Andrew had much better months previously. Jackson and Ezedi were nowhere close. Arroyo and Kenneally just about match up at this point. Ayanna continues to make the most of her political connections.

You have to take everything that David Bernstein says for granted because he lives in Providence, Rhode Island with his wife. The only time he spends in Boston is when he's in front of the computer at the Phoenix. Other than what he reads on other blogs or off the computer screen, he doesn't know what's really happening in the race and as he already admits, he is impartial to certain candidates.

Also with campaign money. All of these candidates may be raising what sounds like a lot of $, but the only $ that counts is "CASH ON HAND." Yes, Pressley, Arroyo, and Kenneally are sitting on top of about $30,000 total cash on hand, but this is very, very weak considering previous races. What can they do with this $30,000 to $40,000 in Cash on Hand... spend it on one small mailer?

Also, you can see who's campaign's are strong and healthy not by seeing how much they are bringing in, but how much cash they are burning through. Look at Pressley's campaign, she has burnt through over half the money she has raised already and her Campaign Manager Stu Rosenberg quit for irreconsilable issues. For Rosenberg to quit (Rosenberg is Michael Ross's former campaign manager and chief of staff and also political operative extraordinaire), he must be seeing the writing on the wall, that the "Top Heavy" Pressley campaign is sinking like the Titanic.

Regarding Arroyo Jr, his father over the last three weeks has been calling the uber-rich in Puerto Rico who had previously supported him, to give $ to Junior. Also, sure Jackson raised about $20K this last month, but he still owes $10K in a massive loan from his bank, and as of July 15, 2009, Ezedi only had $4000 in cash on hand.

This is a "Depression Election" that will obviously be decided not by $, but by grassroots organization and person to person contact. There will be major upsets in the City Council Elections this year.

I think on both a monetary and voter outreach level, Kenneally has proved he is the strongest candidate of all the non-incumbents.

He has roots in all the major voting bases in the city. He is a West Roxbury native and life long advocate, an East Boston resident and his headqaurters (along with a large amount of his volunteers) is in South Boston. While some of his competitors claim to be building a strong "grassroots" effort, it seems Andrew's operation is strongest where the voter turnout is highest.

However he is still working ALL the streets of Boston, most recently with a successful stand-out (in the rain even!) at the Governor's town hall meeting at the Reggie Lewis Track Center in Roxbury.

He is obviously well-liked among working class citizens, being THE leader in endorsements from labor unions that represent tens of thousands of Boston's employed. Including over 10 endorsements in the last week alone!

So by this account, it seems that Kenneally should be considered a clear front-runner in this election rather than someone who is "losing steam"
