Allston man charged with last week's beating, rape of elderly woman

Boston Police report arresting Jose Sariano Gonzalez, 20, of Allston, on charges he beat and raped an elderly woman out for an early morning walk at Harvard Avenue and Gardner Street last Thursday - just steps from Gonzalez's apartment at 74 Harvard Ave.

Police say officers from the sexual assault unit found Gonzalez today right around the corner, near 74 Brighton Ave. After putting up a brief fight, police say, officers arrested Gonzalez on charges of rape, assault and battery on a victim over 65 and resisting arrest.

Prosecutors charge Gonzalez approached the victim on a scooter as she walked along Gardner Street, then lured her to an area between some buildings in the area of 4 Gardner St, where he allegedly punched her in the face and neck and raped her.

"This was a crime of unconscionable brutality," Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley said of the attack on the 66-year-old woman.

Gonzalez was arraigned in Brighton Municipal Copurt this afternoon and held in lieu of the $250,000 cash bail recommended by prosecutors. Even if he could raise the money, he'd be held in jail at the request of Immigrations and Custom Enforcement, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

I wonder if this scum is one of the thugs that hangs out in the tiny yard between the sidewalk and the building.

The one time I've been by this building there were a small but menacing group of people in that fenced-in area.

Does this signal a greater trend of slumlords in Allston moving from students to illegals or is it just this particular building?

The smarter students get about reporting slumlords to ISD, and the more responsive ISD gets to actually doing something about slumlords, the more I think we will see slumlords trying to rent to the segment of the population, which won't report anything out of fear of being found out themselves.
