Jamaica Plain Democratic committee likes Yoon more than Menino

But not enough to formally endorse him, the Jamaica Plain Gazette reports.

That means that wards 4,5 and 11 have favored Yoon over Flaherty - is this a subtle clue to an upset next Tuesday?

The pro-Yoon vote at Ward 5 was 4-2, as in, four people voted for Yoon and two for Flaherty. I wouldn't stake any money on that.

And JP? Well, JP is JP. I'm doubting Flaherty was expecting to do particularly well in Ward 11.

I don't know. Yoon really seems to have the momentum heading into the election. He's raising the money, did well at the debates and forums and seems to be peeling support away from Menino. My money's on Yoon taking second place on Tuesday.

This is Jamaica Plain we're talkin' about. Trotsky would get more votes than Flaherty.

Yoon got the Phoenix's endorsement.

Here.

But Flaherty sort of, I think, got the Herald's endorsement, at least, through the end of October, at any rate.

I couldn't add it because of a computer glitch.

They said that if you're undecided about who you will vote for on September 22nd, we think you should pick Flaherty.

They know that no candidate deserves it at the moment. They know McCrea and Yoon won't get things passed the city council (city councilors all hate Yoon, he is mocked on the council floor constantly) and will be ridiculously ineffective. That leaves Flats and Tom. Tom is under investigation and it would be irresponsible to endorse him until the facts come out. That leaves Flats.

...but its endorsements of progressive candidates have never been confused for "momentum."

Yoon is very likely to get my vote next week, but assuming he makes it to the finals, I hope he runs a sharper campaign.

There's a limit to how sharp a campaign you can run when you've only been on the council for less than 4 years. Yoon's campaign was ill-conceived from the beginning. Don't expect it to get better.

Yoon's platform is also ill conceived. It won't fly in the general election. He admitted to the globe that he is a bad politician and it's going to finish him.

He said he's going to rein in the fire department. He has no friends in the labor movement. Move those votes for flats to menino. yoon said he's going to do a top to bottom review and then cut unnecessary city jobs. move all city workers' votes to menino (and no, menino doesn't have those locked up, unless you say you're going to cut city jobs as Yoon did). Any pragmatic voter who thinks a CEO should have more than 4 years of experience is going to move their votes from flats to menino. Catholics will also do the same, which means Flat's Southie goes for Tom, as does the Haitian community and everywhere else where there are catholic churches.

You'll know if Yoon has any chance on Oct. 1st, when the fundraising report is due. If Flats' donors donate to Tom, Yoon's screwed.
