Willie Horton: The Sequel

Watch the original Horton ad. Then the 21st-century version.

Charley on the MTA to Healey: Bring it on, beeyotch. He notes a Phoenix article that shows violent-crime rates have soared under Romney/Healey:

Look, we can talk about TV ads, or we can talk about what's actually happening in our cities. Healey would seem to be running on her record. Should that record have consequences, or not?

He also notes issues with the DNA test that ended LaGuer's chances for freedom.

Adam Reilly, though, says that no longer matters and says the whole thing reminds him of, gasp, Tom Reilly's handling of that Southborough drunk-teen case:

... The problem--for Patrick and his supporters--is that at this point, the story here isn't LaGuer's guilt or innocence. It's Patrick's inability or unwillingness to accurately describe his involvement with the case from the outset. If Kerry Healey capitalizes on this inability/unwillingness to win support from undecideds and soft Patrick backers, Patrick himself will be largely to blame. ...

Jay Fitzgerald agrees Patrick has only himself to blame:

This could have and should have been over by now -- if only Deval had come clean earlier. He didn't. Now it's drip-drip time, combined with a lot of fibs and forgets that voters register and never quite forget. But, wait! Healey, now pushing anti-Deval cop-killer ads, suddenly has her own coddling-cop-killer caper to deal with. It blunts her argument. But only to a degree ...

Matt Margolis says Patrick has sewn up the prison vote:

... Well, the only message of hope being heard right now from Deval Patrick is for convicted criminals who want to get back on the streets. Brutal rapists and murderers, cop-killers certainly would love to see Deval Patrick as governor. After all, they are the ones whom Deval Patrick has been fight for. He's worked to overturn death sentence for cop killers for crying out loud!

Aaron Margolis says voting against Patrick doesn't make you a racist, so take that liberal robots!

The New England Republican says Patrick is worse than Mike Dukakis.

Andy at Mass. Revolution Now wonders How do you even respond to this?

Kerry Healey do you have anything worthwhile to contribute? Do you have any real ideas? How about you give us reasons we should vote for you instead of reasons we shouldn't vote for the other guy.

Dan Kennedy explores just how many ways Healey is a hypocrite:

... Attempting to trash a lawyer for ethically defending a client is just vile. Attempting to trash a lawyer who was merely trying to spare his client the death penalty is beyond vile. ...

The Outraged Liberal tries to get us back to other issues:

OK, now that both sides have had their knuckles rapped can we get back down to serious business -- and crime and public safety is serious business. For example, what have local aid cuts and rising property taxes meant to staffing of local police and fire departments. Would a woman have perished in a Gloucester fire if voters had not turned down a Proposition 2 1/2 override that would have allowed a fire station closer to her home to remain open?

Ben Hyde reminds us of the shennanigans Healey's husband pulled to get his Beverly land declared blighted.

Lisa Williams: Healey to Town: Drop Dead. What'd Healey do to poor Watertown? She skipped the town fair this past weekend.

...the libs are upset because the ads are true. At least this time around it's a white face in the ad, so the usual accusations of race-baiting won't work.

In Tank Commander Mike's gubernatorial term leading up to his failed campaign for president, he commuted the sentences of 37 convicted murderers, and Patrick has given every indication he'd be the same sort of governor.
