Mike Ross gets closer to moving out of Boston
By adamg on Tue, 12/13/2011 - 7:53pm
Sets up exploratory committee for possible run for Congress in the 4th District. Legally, he doesn't have to move to Newton, or wherever, but in practical terms, if he runs, he's outta here.

No off campus students in Newton
So then, what issue will he be exploiting with Newton residents? He shouldn't expect any help from his Mission Hill fans when he moves to the burbs.
Another potential mayor gone
Although I suppose he doesn't have to move and doesn't have to give up his seat on the CC to run. Ross seemed to be sharper years ago, but being on the CC diminishes a politician in stature.
The idea of lively Boston politics is a myth. Leadership in Boston changes at about the same pace as the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.
He's got a shot if he can get a quick hold on activists in the Boston suburbs in the district.
Great News
If he moves out of the city then this is great news for Boston. The Holocaust survivor story is a very powerful one (tremendous respect for his father and all the survivors)but it seems like it is Ross' only compelling life story. We don't need a life-long city worker/elected official in DC. We need someone in congress who is more in touch with every day people and the challenges facing working families.
This
Progressive Dem will work against him.
He's a divide and concur small issue politician through and through. Right now we need leaders in congress. His constant blame the students schtick that worked so well in small neighborhoods looks brutish when looking at the benefit those schools and those kids do for the MA economy.
Good riddance! Maybe he can
Good riddance! Maybe he can bring his hatred for Higher Education institutions to Congress?
If Boston City Councilor Ross resigned early who then?
If Boston City Councilor Ross resigned early who would be take that Councilor's place?...
City councilor succession
Presumably, if City Councilor Ross resigned, the same thing would happen that happened after Turner was removed and Tobin resigned; there would be a special election.
Rules are that you have to live in the District for one full year prior to the election.
