Back Bay scamster pretending to collect donations for the troops

Boston Police report a guy wandering around the Back Bay yesterday was preying on people's sympathy for service members:
[He] as falsely representing himself as a member of the USO with superimposed photos of himself and a false USO Identification Card. The suspect has been soliciting funds for personal use under the guise of donations to US troops. The suspect has been known to carry a tin can covered with American flags and is frequently seen in the Back Bay area. The suspect is known to police for having solicited under false pretenses in the past.

Might be the same guy who solicited me when I lived in Allston. When I refused to donate, he got really nasty.
Fraudulent solicitors
There are many fraudulent people in the area soliciting under false pretenses and always have been. All kinds of shady vendors were selling bootleg "Boston Strong" merchandise. I saw people buying it anyway. And now with the warm weather arriving, the gypsies at Downtown Crossing who always suddenly appear with the first hint of warm weather will be around, collecting for "the Indian children". I swear some of them are the same ones I used to see there back in the 70s! It amazes me how many people are still taken in by these well worn scams.
And the track team or whatever
I wish they'd especially crack down on the ones that are using minors for their fraudulent solicitation.

I think he's been at this for awhile. I'm pretty sure I ran into this guy on St. James and Clarendon one night, behind Christ Trinity sometime last winter. He was with a friend of his, but the "USO" guy did all of the talking. He flashed his ID and started into his story about how he works with the Army and United Airlines, and earlier that night they were at Logan collecting donations for the troops blah blah blah...
This is why I don't hand out money to the homeless, or any other schumck asking for anything on the street.
