MA has to have the highest
MA has to have the highest rate of drivers hitting people in the nation.. Don't worry driver, u won't do any time in jail.
Not fatal collisions, at any rate
According to federal data (scroll down toward the bottom), Massachusetts actually has one of the lowest pedestrian-fatality rates in the country: 0.88 per 100,000 residents, compared to states such as Arizona (2.28) and North Carolina (1.77). The national average: 1.38.

But so long as none of these were due to terrorists, no big deal right?
Would it really cost that much more in money or man-hours to investigate traffic deaths the same way they do other homicides? (The police are responding to this accident more then most.) Or rather, could we spend some of that anti-terrorism money on a department with the sole responsibility to investigate traffic injuries? Too bad we don't have a One Fund for innocent people hurt or killed while on the street/sidewalk.
Be glad you are not a deer
1.5 MILLION car-deer accidents a YEAR. That is just deer, not even moose, coyote, skunks, squirrels etc. 200 people die a year in those deer collisions. So, figure out how to stop suicide deer from killing people with Homeland Security money. Oh, and in this accident, in front of a liquor store, might the cause be other than the motorist?
Why do we automatically believe
the driver is always at fault in these cases. Oh right, because we've adopted the totally illogical premise that states that a pedestrian on two feet, who can control their actions far more easily than a person driving a multi-ton motor vehice can, is always presumed to have the right of way over said vehicle, even when the pedestrian is crossing against a don't walk light of just ambles into the street without using a marked crosswalk.
"and brought in extra
"and brought in extra officers for crowd control."
Well, of course.
Was the pedestrian wearing a
Was the pedestrian wearing a helmet?
Looks like the ped was walking on the SIDEWALK!
Why aren't drivers sited when killing people on the sidewalk?
