I wonder if the lack of comments means others feel the same way. I will face up to this story, eventually, but I just can't right now. :(

As a former public high school teacher, this shit happens all too often. Every year I lose a few former students and it's always heartbreaking.

Must be nice to be a rich suburbanite. Go fuck off and die.

If not, shut your mouth. I had so many students who did their damnedest to stay out of it but the gangs are really, really good at dragging people into their shit just because they claim your block. Also, I call bullshit on only people directly involved getting shot: there's a ton of collateral damage.

There is no evidence that he was in a gang...and even if this poor boy was...his life was taken. Alternatively, he might of not wanted to join a gang but, again, there is no evidence.

Actually, there is. From the article:

Dos Santos’s basketball coach, Paris Cherry, has said the teenager confided in him two months ago that he was being pressured to join a gang, but did not want any part of it.

You might want to read the whole story before commenting.

If you simply stop reacting to this person he will eventually become irrelevant and disappear. If you keep paying him attention he will continue be an attention whore. In short if you don't feed the attention whores they will be forced to do their whoring on another site.

Dos Santos’s basketball coach, Paris Cherry, has said the teenager confided in him two months ago that he was being pressured to join a gang, but did not want any part of it.

I don't think this is duplicitous adolescent gang member behavior, but it sounds like the kind of thing an innocent person can get targeted for. Sounds like Dos Santos was a good kid who got sucked in to urban violence despite trying his best to avoid it. And regardless of the details, it's unfathomably assholish and privileged to think a 16-year-old deserves to die at all, let alone for having gang members in his social circles. When I was in high school I sometimes helped gang members with homework. I knew they were gang members; they just also happened to be my classmates and I was a good student. That doesn't mean that I would deserve to get shot if for some reason a confrontation were to occur.

No, I didn't know Dos Santos (though I live down the street from where he was killed). But neither did you, and there's a lot of actual tangible extant evidence that he was a good kid. Unfortunately the only evidence that he deserved to die comes from I-didn't-explicitly-mention-race-style racism, which means you're likely a giant asshole.

sounds an awful lot like he was associating with the people that killed him

guess that pretty much validates my earlier statement!

Ok....what in the Herald story said that he knew his killers?

Secondly, you really think after your first stupid comment anyone with a brain or an ounce of class is going to validate your nonsense?

Please.

where it says investigators believed he knew his killers?

Kids who get bullied know their bullies, but that doesn't mean they're best friends. It could be something similar here.

This poor child tried to do what was right. Why aren't the neighborhood activists protesting to bring attention to THIS death and demanding that the culprits be brought to justice?

Just because you don't see something on Fox News doesn't mean it's not happening.

And, in fact, two alleged killers were apprehended, and the police commissioner and the mayor held a press conference to announce that - not usual practice for murders in Boston.

The evening after, the corner of Fuller and Washington was full of probably hundreds of people. I didn't take a picture because that's incredibly rude, but yes, people were demanding justice, you're just an ignorant jerk.

I work down there and around 2:00 PM the next day I actually saw a HUGE fight at the intersection. Tons of BPD showed up. I don't know if it was related, but it would be silly of me to assume it wasn't.

Either way, not exactly a "protest".

I want to know how this happened. Is the Globe or someone going to follow up?

If the Globe doesn't get more info for tomorrow. The prosecutor usually provides the basics of the case at arraignment, which will be Monday in Dorchester Municipal Court.

FYI, the victim had his gang's name as his social media handle. Not saying he wasn't a good kid, I work with gang members and a lot of them are good kids pressured into a bad situation. However, if you're publicly claiming a group, you're most likely in pretty deep.
