Star Market is hoping customers will buy foods to eat on patios outside its Dorchester, Fenway and Allston stores.
The chain goes before the Boston Licensing Board on Wednesday for permission to add patios at the three locations, similar to what the Whole Foods in the South End offers - with 24-hour patio seating at the Fenway store.
Winter customers at the Dorchester and Allston stores would also be able to consume their high-profit foods at indoor seating areas, should the board approve the requests.
The board's hearings begin at 10 a.m. in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

I just don't know how to get out to it lol. Better access at least would be nice. They have decent prepared food in the deli, and the sidewalk there is great for people watching.

Yes, the Allston Star has had a patio since it opened in 1994. However, access used to be through the Starbucks/cafe/indoor seating area space which is now the liquor store. The patio is fenced in, with a gate to the street just past the outside wall of the liquor store, and I'm not sure it's currently open to the public.
For that matter, this store already has a small indoor seating area as well - a sad little coffee bar with a pod coffee maker, a counter with about 4 seats, and 3 or 4 high-tops with seats. (It would be nice if they would add some tables/seating that did not involve tall bar stools, for those of us who find those uncomfortable or difficult to get into/out of, though!)

They already have some patio seating outside the Fenway store.
I like to sit out there and look blissfully across the street to where the Wegmans will be built and think how much better it will be then Shaws.

Any outdoor seating for customers is a good thing in my book! A Trader Joe's with outdoor seating would be the ultimate.
The Star Market on the Cambridge/Watertown line is surprisingly good. No outdoor seating though.
Not the subs

In the early 80s I used to live for a whole day on a sub from that Star Market. They made them at the deli counter and would load 3/4 of a pound of roast beef on a big sub roll with all the toppings you wanted. There was no portion control - they weighed out the product if you ordered a pound of sliced, but just generously eyeballed the amount on a sub.

If we are talking about Morrissey Blvd, Star aready has an outside patio. Its been there since it opened as Star, changed to Shaws, then changed back to Star. It also has an indoor eating area where the kids from BC High like to hang. Or are we talking about Lower Mills on River St?

...I'd like to see them restore the shuttle service they used to have for the surrounding neighborhoods. It wasn't the world's greatest system, but it was better than not at all.

They added the patio in front of the Fenway location earlier this year when they opened the entrance that faces Boylston.

anyone remember this place? supermarket (BigBuy) on the right and, get this, you had to go thru a turnstyle to get into the Turnstyle (department store)! the brighams was in the middle, at the back, and raised so you could watch for allston rat shoplifters. eventually it all became Caldor's.

I remember Turnstyle department stores. There was one at Northgate in Revere in the early 70s, and you did have to got through a turnstyle to enter. The store was very much like a Zayres, if you remember Zayres.

There used to be a Turnstyle in Quincy, too, next to the Star Market.
It left when I was a wee tot, but the turnstyles stayed and the name stuck when the space become an Osco (back when Osco was more than just a drug store). There was also a Brighams sorta in between the two.
They eventually took out the turnstyles, and put a wall up instead. The Osco became a Rite Aid, but Star is still there and has been my main grocery store for as long as I've been an adult.
Please do this in Porter Square, too!
