City designates company to build sparkly new hotel on the water

Proposed seaport hotel in Boston

The Economic Development and Industrial Corporation this week selected a company to build a 405-room hotel in the Boston Marine Industrial Park.

The proposal, by Harbinger Development, calls for the hotel on a lot off Summer Street that is one of two in the industrial park not required to be used for marine or industrial use.

Harbinger is talking to Hilton Worldwide to operate the hotel, EDIC says.

True, dat. Also, the original image has a cruise ship barreling down on the hotel, a la Silver Streak.

what an odd place for a hotel.

It's odd to have a hotel across from a cruise ship terminal and a short walk from a convention center?
Yeah, never any tourists at either of those locations.

It is odd they are building more hotel rooms near the Convention Center and the Cruiseport, the existing hotels are never 100% occupied.
And it is an odd location. Ask anyone who has been on a cruise into the Port of Boston and they will tell you they think it's odd having a cruise terminal in the middle of nowhere. Not to mention the new haul road being constructed from Conley Terminal which will dump truck traffic right in front of the new hotel.

Do you have any stats on that? I just have one data point but I'm one of the volunteers on a science fiction convention that happens at the Westin. We always sell out the hotel and the overflow hotel (Renaissance I think). Whenever there are events at the convention center everything nearby fills up. So not 100% all the time but 100% during peak usage.
