Gunfire followed by arrest in Dorchester
Boston Police report officers responding to a call about gunfire at Columbia Road and Seaver Street around 3:40 a.m. spotted a guy walking quickly away while clutching at his waistband:
Officers stopped their vehicle and were preparing to exit in order to speak with suspect when he suddenly took off running. Officers pursued the suspect on foot and were closing in on him when they observed him pull a firearm from his waistband and discard it on the sidewalk. The firearm was later recovered and determined to be a loaded .32 caliber Regent revolver with an obliterated serial number.
After a "brief but violent struggle," officers arrested Joquentz Constant, 22, of Dorchester, on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with an oliterated serial number and resisting arrest, police say.
Innocent, etc.

Off the streets for an entire six months for carjacking?

violent carjacking in February...
Violent carjacking in February...followed by unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and resisting arrest.
How would a violent criminal be out walking the streets 6 months after a carjacking you ask? Welcome to Massachusetts.
I predict the next crime for this fine young scholar to be committed sometime around Christmas - if he decides to wait that long.
Just a thought
Perhaps the carjacking case has not yet gone to trial.
Just spitballing here, but unless one can show be an actual conviction, that might be why.
Sure
Let's say this hasn't gone to trial yet, in which case there was some genius judge who decided this fine young man was of no danger to anyone and let him go on lunch money bail.
