There were a couple of coots (no clue if they were old coots) at Jamaica Pond today, with their pigeon-like way of moving around the water: Their heads bobbing back and forth as they moved.
Several coots have made their late-fall arrival at Jamaica Pond - looking like ducks in the water, and sort of chickens on land, except for their feet, which look like, well, nothing you'd expect.
Coots are interesting birds. While they're in the water, they look like small ducks. Then they stand on a rock and they look sort of like chickens. And then, if they come fully out of the water and start walking around, well, you can't help but notice their feet, as Enoch Pratt did today down at Leverett Pond in the Emerald Necklace.
