Coots back at Jamaica Pond

A coot

There were a couple of coots (no clue if they were old coots) at Jamaica Pond today, with their pigeon-like way of moving around the water: Their heads bobbing back and forth as they moved.

The annual migration south of the coots to Jamaica Pond is a sure sign of the changing of the seasons. Many stick around all winter. Their feet are interesting, not webbed, more like toes.

In the water, they look kind of like small ducks, but when they come out, they look more like chickens. And, yes, those feet.
