Bob Lobel

A federal judge today dismissed Bob Lobel's suit against a Newton golf course over its refusing to let him use an "adaptive golf cart," ruling it's a private club exempt from the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. Read more.

Former sports anchor Bob Lobel, who now walks with crutches due to a series of injuries and surgeries, this week sued the Woodland Golf Club in Auburndale under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Read more.

Westborough News interviews Lobel and one of the people in charge of his rehab on learning to walk again after several surgeries for spinal stenosis. Breaking his leg in four places in the middle of rehab didn't help.

And he kept shuffling papers and he was unable to finish his anecdotes, he'd sound like Bob Lobel did doing the sports this morning on WBZ.

By adamg - 1/28/09 - 8:07 am

Bob Lobel will be doing the morning drive-time sports reports on WBZ next week, we hear. It's not a permanent thing (at least, not yet).

You'd think a former sportscaster who sued a cartoonist (successfully) for calling him a drunk might think twice before accusing a professional baseball player of throwing games. You'd think wrong.

Via Rich Levine, who argues that Lobel must be stopped, and not just because the column shows he has problems stringing sentences together coherently.

Earlier:
Lobel isn't even being original at this point.

Maureen Carney listened to Bob Lobel's inaugural broadcast as an oldies jock on WODS this morning:

... Karen Blake kept referring to him as the "guest host". They're still playing music and taking calls but that needs to be worked out a little smoother. No sooner does a caller get on the air then they have to go to a commercial break. Lobel seemed (at least to me) a little ill at ease, which is to be expected. It's been 30 years since he's done a daily radio show, and we all know he's not a morning person. ...

The Herald reports Oldies 103.3 is replacing Dale Dorman with Bob Lobel. Bob Lobel? Yes, Bob Lobel. He'll be hosting what the station describes as a "very fresh" drivetime show with Karen Blake. No word if it's all talk or if we'll get to hear Lobel introduce the music you grew up with.

Dan Kennedy doesn't think Lobel has provided enough proof for his serious allegation against Manny Ramirez (that Ramirez took a dive in an at-bat against Mariano Rivera to protest a huge fine for knocking down the team traveling secretary).

Meanwhile, Dan Shaughnessy admits he reads blogs, in a column in which the CHB airs out his perpetual grievance against Ramirez without ever actually saying Lobel is right. Neat Shanky trick.

Jeff Louderbeck isn't buying Lobel's version, either:

... Like many members of the Boston sports media, Lobel has little credibility. Much like Dan Shaughnessy does with his written words, Lobel stirs the pot with his mouth, speaking before thinking. In fact, Lobel's words have already been dismissed by one of the few credible Boston media members, Gordon Edes of the Boston Globe. According to Edes' 3:46 p.m. post on the Extra Bases blog, Ramirez' fine was wildly overstated. ...

Which makes one wonder why Shaughnessy felt compelled to lead with Lobel's version.

I'm watching the Marathon live. Is it just me, or does Bob Lobel also remind you of Fred Willard in "Best in Show"?

I mean, I love the guy, but he seems to be there for the celebrity factor, and he's a bit underprepared. As Biktimirova and Tuna battle it out:

Bob: "When's the last time a Russian woman won the Boston Marathon?"

Other commentator: "Last year..."

Think they'll just ride off into the sunset, though?

The Outraged Liberal, himself a recovering journalist, explains why this should matter beyond not having a familiar face on the tube every night:

By adamg - 11/14/06 - 4:40 pm

No, me neither. But apparently, Channel 38 thinks somebody has, because Lobel and weatherdude Ken Barlow are swapping jobs for the next couple of nights on the 9:30 p.m. news, Jesse Noyes reports.

David Scott chronicles "the rapidly-aging and fastly-fading" Bob Lobel's performance on Sunday night's "Sports Final" - was he really giggling over the way that guy collapsed at the finish line of the Chicago Marathon?

By adamg - 7/24/06 - 12:34 pm

David Scott wonders whether Ted Johnson still has a contractual deal with Channel 4, based on the softball questions gently lobbed him by Bob Lobel:

... Lobel ended the piece from the studio with a meandering, babbling public service announcement about the "moral of the story" and urging viewers to make a call if they feel threatened.

Sure, it's no Matt Amorello crack, but one of our channel-4-watching correspondents couldn't believe her ears last night while watching Bob Lobel do the sports:

He ended his story on last night's game saying "Lester The Molester is now 5-0 with tonight's win." I actually rewound the DVR to ensure I heard it correctly.
