The State House News Service reports the House of Representatives has passed a bill that would let Boston skip any special elections for mayor should Marty Walsh resign before March 5. It now goes to the Senate, and if it approves, the governor. Read more.

City Councilor and mayoral candidate Annissa Essaibi-George said tonight that the head of the police union is out of line claiming the council doesn't care about cops' safety after an allegedly angry guy threw a metal pole through a lobby window at the South End police station and then jumped through the new hole and attacked an officer on Saturday night. They may be running against each other for mayor, but at-large councilors Michelle Wu and Annissa Essaibi-George said today they are seeking a measure that would give city workers up to three days of paid leave should they feel ill after getting a Covid-19 shot. The Dorchester Reporter gets the scoop: At-large Councilor Annissa Essaibi-George will announce tomorrow she's running for mayor.

She will join fellow councilors Michelle Wu (at large) and Andrea Campbell (Dorchester, Mattapan, Roslindale) in a formal bid for the seat Marty Walsh hopes to give up to become US labor secretary.

When not busy citying, Councilor Annissa Essaibi George runs a sewing-supply store in Dorchester. Tomorrow, Stitch House Dorchester will run a virtual sewing circle between noon and 3 p.m. to make masks for all the doctors, nurses and technicians running out of them. Don't worry, they'll provide a pattern, as well as a chat window.

When done, you'll be able to drop the masks off at Stitch House or Gather Here Stitch Lounge in Cambridge.

Mayor Marty Walsh this week endorsed Annissa Essaibi-George for re-election to one of the four at-large City Council seats up this fall.

West Roxbury Judge Kathleen Coffey urges councilors to back more mental-health workers on the street.

Boston city councilors have started looking at expanding a program that uses mental-health workers to try to de-escalate confrontations between "emotionally disturbed" people and the police.

A proposal by Councilor Ayanna Pressley (at large) to add more workers to the existing Boston Emergency Services Team (BEST) won the backing of Police Commissioner William Evans and West Roxbury Municipal Court Judge Kathleen Coffey, who runs a special court session for people with mental illnesses facing criminal charges.
