St. Patrick's sort of parade on Sunday

Chad Parenteau reports he and his girlfriend were driving down Broadway yesterday when:

We came across a flash mob Saint Patrick's parade of sorts. People driving around decorated vehicles and screaming from their windows (and even the open back of a van).

Transit Police are investigating an incident last night in which somebody commandeered the PA system on an outbound Red Line train pulling into Broadway.

Charles McCarthy and Patrick McDevitt of East Way Development LLC have filed plans with the BPDA to replace the building with Ottavio's Barbershop at 472 W. Broadway with a five-story building with 16 "compact" condos. Read more.

Several hours after a brake-spasmed Green Line trolley filled Copley station with smoke, a Red Line train pulled the same stunt at Broadway, around 4 p.m., sending smoke down the tunnel and into the South Station subway stop.

Red Line service towards Alewife went into delay mode as T workers strove to make the brake-locked train disappear.

The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved plans by the Playwright, 658 East Broadway, to expand its capacity and add residential units on floors above it - but board members said they are concerned by complaints from nearby residents about boisterious, often angry customers, especially at closing time. The FBI's Bank Robbery Task Force is looking for a woman who robbed the East Boston Savings Bank branch at 430 West Broadway on Wednesday, about 11 months after she last robbed the same bank branch. Read more.

Edibles and money found at South Boston store

The owner of King Smoke Shop, 600 East Broadway in South Boston, was arrested along with one of his clerks today on charges they were selling marijuana cigarettes, THC and edibles that included pot-laced gummy worms. Read more.

UPDATE: Both firefighters and police departed the tracks at 3:05 p.m.; service resumed around 3:35 p.m.

Boston firefighters are on scene trying to extricate the person.

The MBTA reports it is running shuttle buses between JFK/UMass and Park Street.
