The Zoning Board of Appeal today approved marijuana shops at 430-454 Blue Hill Ave. in Grove Hall and 591 Albany St. in the South End.
In both cases, the approval does not mean the shops can actually open, only that they can now apply to the state Cannabis Control Commission, which would have to decide whether to grant licenses. Read more.

Boston Police report a man was shot repeatedly outside 500 Blue Hill Ave., near Castlegate, around 8:10 p.m. The man, believed to be in his late 20s, was taken to a local hospital, where he died.

Boston Police report arresting Khamonie McCallop, 18, of Roxbury, on charges he shot and killed Christopher Menard, 17, at Blue Hill Avenue and Cheney Street on July 6. Read more.

One of the 17 people charged in connection with a crackdown on two Dorchester gangs was actually arrested last November, pleaded guilty to federal drug charges in February and was sentenced in May to 30 months in federal prison and three years of supervised release, during which he agreed to stay out of Grove Hall and Uphams Corner. Boston Police report arresting a 17-year-old after a school-police officer found "a 7.65 caliber Deutsche Werke handgun loaded with a single round of ammunition" around 8:30 this morning.
The student was charged with being delinquent for unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device, police say.

Boston Police report a man in his late 20s was shot at 195 Normandy St. around 2:55 a.m. He was declared dead at the scene.
Around 11 p.m. at Warren and Intervale streets. The victim's injuries were bad enough to have the homicide unit brought in, just in case.
Boston Police report a 17-year-old is dead from a barrage around 1:15 p.m. outside Burke High School this afternoon that also injured two other teens and a woman in her 60s.
City Council President Michelle Wu ended today's council meeting by announcing the shootings.

A man robbed the OneUnited Bank branch at 648 Warren St. in Grove Hall shortly before 11:30 a.m. Arriving officers spotted him not long after on Geneva Avenue near Columbia Road and, after a brief foot chase, placed him under arrest.
