b.
Who are the people on the search committee for the new head of our Boston Public Library?...

By thezak - 11/14/07 - 6:25 am

The new person heading up our Boston Public Library should be
knowledgeable about grey literature
http://greynet.org

Of particular concern are government documents of our city that for
too long have been inaccessible. We need to have our public library
able to develop in depth collections of our public city documents.

A a) Mayoral Directive and b) City Council Order are needed for the more
routine transmittal of our public city documents to our public library
so researchers can study our city more effectively. That appears
unlikely to happen.

. Statement of Board Chairman Jeffrey B. Rudman regarding Library
President Bernard A. Margolis ten years with the Boston Public
Library

. Required formal notice regarding employment contract of Bernard
A. Margolis

VOTED: that in accordance with the terms of the employment contract
by and between The Board of Trustees of the Public Library of the
City of Boston and Bernard A. Margolis, the contract is not
extended beyond the existing Employment Period ending on June 30,
2008.

"Also wrested out of context are recycled versions of Margolis's unwillingness to install Internet filters -- except for children -- on library computers. Free speech may be uncomfortable at times, but it should never be so in a library. It is the branch libraries, though, that are now center stage."

According to Chapter 2 section 2-3.1 of the City of Boston Code, the Elections Department is under the charge of the Board of Commissioners, who are appointed to 4 year terms by the Mayor. The powers and duties of the Commissioners are spelled out in Chapter 51, Section 16A of the Massachusetts General Laws http://www.mass.gov/legis/laws/mgl/51-16a.htm
