Riverway van crash kills elderly woman from Somerville

State Police report a woman in a wheelchair died Monday afternoon after the driver of the van she was in veered off the Riverway and into a tree at the intersection with Longwood Avenue. Read more.

Update: Lockdown ended, police perimeter removed, hospital and Longwood Avenue re-opened around 9:55 p.m.

State Police report that a car chase involving a suspected fentanyl dealer started on Rte. 9 in Brookline and ended in a garage at 375 Longwood Ave. near the Riverway around 7:30 p.m. after the suspect drove in, then tried to run away from both state troopers and BPD officers. Read more.

One dead as hazmat crews rush to Harvard Dental School

WHDH reports the school on Longwood Avenue was evacuated, including students performing dental surgery at the time. WBZ updates that the person may have been dead since yesterday, that there was no spill and that hazmat crews were called because the school's labs have various chemicals.

A Boston health inspector yesterday ordered Red Barn Coffee Roasters in the Longwood Galleria shut for a series of health violations, many focused on the lack of hand washing by workers. Read more.

UPDATE: Suspicious package found at Harvard Medical School building; partial evacuation called around 12:45 p.m.

Police emptied MCPHS University and MassArt buildings at Longwood Avenue near Huntington and put the nearby Boston Latin School in "safe mode" around 11:30 a.m. as the bomb squad investigated a suspicious package inside.

Shortly after 11:50 a.m., bomb technicians determined the package was not harmful. The university began letting students back in and Boston Latin came out of safe mode.

It looked like a shooting or something, and the street was impossible to drive down. ... The police looked happy & were joking with each other, which made it look not-so-serious ... but the number of police and all that CSI stuff made it look serious.
