Shot-up car on Harvard Street in Dorchester

Live Boston reports that a man in a car parked on Harvard Street at Bernard Street was shot in the arm and leg around 8:20 p.m. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.

The Brookline Transportation Division reports both the Select Board and the Transportation Board have approved an "open streets" plan to reallocate some of the asphalt along Harvard Street, Longwood and Brookline avenues and part of Beacon Street for use by people not in cars so that they can get around while maintaining social distance, at least during the current Covid-19 emergency. Brookline Police report a judge yesterday issued a warrant for the man they say defaced the Chabad Center at 496 Harvard St. with antisemitic graffiti in Russian and a poor attempt at a swastika early Sunday - now they just have to find him. Read more.

Brookline Police report they are looking for a Russian-speaking choad who sprayed the Chabad Center, 496 Harvard St., with antisemitic graffiti - in Russian - and his failed attempted at a swastika around 1:40 a.m. on Sunday. Read more.

The Boston Fire Department reports a fire this morning caused an estimated $200,000 to a three decker at 207 Harvard St. in Dorchester.

The department reports no injuries, says the cause is under investigation.

KMV surveyed the damage at Anna's Taqueria on Harvard Street after somebody drove into it early this morning. No injuries, at least, he reports.

The Brookline Police Department reports the facade at Taam China, 423 Harvard St., collapsed overnight. There were no injuries.

Boston Restaurant Talk reports that the old Rubin's on Harvard Street, which closed last summer will become the new home of Shan-A-Punjab, an Indian restaurant that's now a few blocks further south on Harvard.

247 Harvard St. fire

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 247 Harvard St. in Dorchester at 11:50 p.m. on Friday for what turned into a four-alarm fire.

The department says one firefighter suffered a shoulder injury. It estimated damage at $500,000; the cause is under investigation.

The Jewish Journal takes a look at how two area congregations are trying to revitalize themselves. In Marblehead, Rabbi David Meyer figured if the Millennials won't come to him, he'll go to them. The temple now has a young-professionals group - Jews 'n' Brews - that gets together once a month at a local watering hole. Meyer always picks up the tab for the first round. And in Brookline, Congregation Mishkan Tefila is settling in at its new home on the Congregation Kehillath Israel's Harvard Street campus after selling off its own Newton campus that had simply become too large for it.

The kosher market on Harvard Street in Brookline, shut since a two-alarm fire in July, reports it's passed all its inspections and will re-open at 10 a.m. on Sept. 7.
