On an unscheduled inspection of the Sidebar on Bromfield Street last month, BPD Sgt. William Gallagher asked a young-looking customer with a draft beer for his ID. The man handed over a Dutch ID showing him to be over 21. The two erstwhile officers at the Wentworth Institute of Technology got 30 days probation today for attempting to sell college GPS and surveying equipment on eBay, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Jonathan Carroll, Jr, 28, and Jay Cunha, 27, were charged with removing $40,000 worth of equipment from a storage unit and putting it up for sale. Unfortunately for them, another employee noticed the equipment was missing the very next day, the DA's office says. Other Wentworth officers checked out eBay to see if any of the equipment turned up there and then tracked the pair down by contacting somebody who made a successful $4,500 bid for one of the devices - a Trimble 5800 GPS.

The college was able to retrieve all of the missing equipment, the DA's office says.

Channel 4 reports a man driving down Huntington Avenue early Wednesday was nearly done in by a frozen loaf of bread heaved into his windshield from a Wentworth dorm named Baker Hall. This is the second such incident involving the dorm in two weeks, the station says:

"I think they should put screens on the windows to prevent it," one student said.
