A city health inspector yesterday shut S & I to Go, 168 Brighton Ave., for violations that included cockroaches in the restaurant's supply of sugar and evidence that rodents had gotten into its rice. Read more.

Boston Police report a woman was indecently assaulted early Sunday at Harvard and Comm. avenues., two weeks after another woman was similarly attacked at Harvard and Brighton avenues. Read more.

Police shut the roads around the intersection of Harvard and Brighton avenues this morning after police found two suspicious packages a block apart. One person was arrested; emergency responders began leaving shortly after 2 p.m.

Proposed building at 89 Brighton Ave. in Allston

A Cambridge developer this week submitted detailed plans to the BRA for replacing an existing car-rental place, small office building and large house at 89 Brighton Ave. with a 138-unit apartment building with 69 spaces for cars - and 142 for bicycles.

In his filing, Noah Maslan of Eden Properties says the building will be aimed at the growing number of small household who would rather ride a bike, rent a car or take a car service than deal with owning their own car in the city. Read more.

Fire investigators are at 79 Brighton Ave. to try to determine what sent the apparently vacant building up in flames early this morning.

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded around 6:05 a.m. to heavy fire already showing from the three-story brick building.

The Boston Licensing Board yesterday granted a beer-and-wine license to Totto Ramen, 169 Brighton Ave.

Because Totto Ramen, the first Boston outlet of a New York City noodle chain, is in a city Main Street district, it won one of several new licenses authorized by the state legislature this year to encourage restaurant entrepreneurs in neighborhoods away from downtown and the waterfront. Unlike older licenses, this one cannot be sold outside of Allston.

The truck got stuck sometime before 11 p.m. Police shut the road between Comm. Ave. and Linden Street until it was freed.

A car crash at Brighton and Harvard avenues shortly after 11:30 p.m. turned into a violent melee when at least three people attacked the firefighters and EMTs who arrived to help, throwing repeated punches as firefighters kept radioing for police help.

Once police arrived, they made "multiple arrests," according to Boston EMS Incidents.

UPDATE: Three arraigned; say they didn't start the fight.

The Daily Free Press reports (fourth item) the victim made it from Tavern in the Square on Brighton Avenue to Harvard Avenue early Sunday before he was beaten up and robbed by a group of six men with whom he had verbally jousted in the bar.
