At the height of the storm

Snow on Brighton Avenue in Allston

OK, it wasn't that much of a storm, but, boy, did it have some big flakes, as Meagan discovered on Brighton Avenue in Allston.

Wow - a lot more snowfall in Alston than downtown...

In Chelsealand we hardly got any snow. None to even cover the grassy surfaces. It all came down as rain instead.

on the streets in Downtown Boston this morning, you'd think we'd gotten four feet of snow instead of a dusting.

Laid down brine before the storm - or, at least, some salt?

Nah. That's standard practice in ice control - ice storms being something that the Boston area can't fathom.

I remember my dad tossing fits seeing boneheads trying to salt and plow after an ice storm here a few years back - he called the DEP himself to try to explain how to do it right.

before a storm that leaves only a minor coating, with the result that you end up with a significant residue that resembles what roads normally look like after four or five serious winter storms, then methinks you should be rethinking your pre-treatment practices.

And I noted that the roads in other communities that got just as much or more snow as Downtown Boston were clear and passable, but weren't chalk white from salt residue.

Around here, they usually do put down salt before any snow or ice storm.

It still made the brick sidewalks in my neighborhood pretty icy.
