The Chelsea Record reports on what's going up where trouble used to frequently go down on the Chelsea/Everett line.
King Arthur's Lounge
The Chelsea Record reports on a zoning-board meeting where a proposal to turn the shuttered club with a bloody past into a new club that would require gentlemen to wear suits and ties was rejected, in part because it turns out the proponents didn't have permission from the owner of the land to do anything with it.
The Supreme Judicial Court ruled today that Jesse Camacho of East Boston got a fair trial on charges he murdered a rival gang member and shot up the now closed Chelsea bucket o' blood and strip club, so there's no reason to do anything about the life-without-parole sentence he got when he was found guilty. A worker at King Arthur's Lounge who got into an argument with a drunk customer shortly before the guy was ejected clocked out, followed him outside and punctured him so badly Chelsea Police summoned homicide investigators when they arrived, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office charges.
Jody Lassiter, 49, of Everett, was arraigned in Chelsea District Court on a single count of armed assault with intent to murder, the DA's office reports, adding he was held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
According to the DA's office, Lassiter stabbed the patron roughly ten times shortly after midnight on May 15.
Suffolk County DA Dan Conley announced today the arrest of the suspect in a January shooting that left one dead at the infamous King Arthur's Lounge in Chelsea.
Jesse "Fat Jesse" Camacho of East Boston was charged with the murder of Jeff Santiago following a midnight fight at the bar. Police say that Camacho, who already had a lengthy record of violence, fired at least seven shots during the altercation. Two other people - a friend of Santiago's and a club worker - were shot in the legs.
In a statement, Conley said investigators followed leads to Los Angeles, where Camacho was born and to which he allegedly fled after the fight, and then tracked him to a "rural region in southwest Mexico." He was arrested by Mexican authorities around 6 p.m. yesterday as he stepped off a city bus in Mexico City.
When returned to Massachusetts, Camacho will face trial on charges of first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and two counts each of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to murder.
UPDATE: Camacho was captured in Mexico City on 10/30.
A beefy East Boston teen with a lengthy record of violence is being sought for the triple shooting that left one dead at King Arthur's Lounge in Chelsea last week.
Jesse "Fat Jesse" Camacho, 19, is wanted for the murder of Jeff Santiago of Everett and two counts of armed assault with intent to murder for shooting the other two men. Not surprisingly, Camacho has gone into hiding; the Suffolk County DA's office held a press conference this afternoon to seek the public's help in finding him. DA Dan Conley said:
Our investigation has revealed that a verbal altercation between two small groups of men erupted inside King Arthur's shortly after midnight. Within moments, that verbal altercation escalated to physical violence between the two groups. During that clash, Camacho produced a black handgun from his waistband and fired it multiple times, striking three victims: a 29-year-old Everett man believed to be part of the victim's party, a 41-year-old Charlestown resident who worked at the establishment, and Mr. Santiago.
Camacho is also known as "Baby Jay" and "Syke." He's between 5'5" and 5"7" and weighs about 280 pounds. Officials described him as armed and dangerous; the Globe details his violent record.
One wonders if Chelsea officials might also be investigating how a 19-year-old wound up in a bar after midnight.
