The Zoning Board of Appeal on Tuesday approved a marijuana dispensary at 1295-1297 River St., in Hyde Park, but owner Geneise Israel said that even if she now quickly gets the required state approval, she won't open her door until after the decaying and now closed River Street Bridge right next door is re-opened. MassDOT has updated its plans for the River Street Bridge in Cleary Square, closed since May: Do enough repairs to the crumbling span to re-open it to vehicle traffic in the spring of 2024, while it continues to work towards a more permanent replacement in a year to be determined. Read more.

SK Convenience, 1283 River St. in Hyde Park, was held up around 9:40 p.m. by a man who then ran across the River Street Bridge and onto Business Street. He was described as Black, in his 40s, wearing all black clothing and gloves with a balaclava over his face and about 5'8."

MassDOT told Hyde Park residents last night they're going to have to keep detouring around the bridge over the train tracks through Cleary Square until at least spring, 2025, which is the earliest officials say they can have a new River Street bridge built. Read more.

MassDOT says the River Street bridge in Cleary Square is beyond repair, so it's started work on designing its complete replacement - with preliminary plans hopefully available for the public to look at in the first quarter of 2023. Read more.

WBZ reports a man walked into SK Convenience, 1283 River St. in Hyde Park, shortly after 9 a.m. put a gun to a clerk's head and when she couldn't open a cash register fast enough, threw her to the ground and threatened to kill her - as her five-year-old daughter was in the back of the store, which is around the corner from the E-18 police station.

Most Precious Blood parish.

Officials at Most Precious Blood Church have begun looking at leasing church property to an apartment developer as a way to ensure a new revenue stream for the church and two affiliated parishes in Readville and Milton.

But at a meeting last night at the former St. Anne School in Readville, parishioners soundly opposed a proposal to turn the main church building on Maple Street into 24 apartments and convert a basement chapel into the main worship area. Read more.
