Thank you and some food for snow shoveling

John Hanzl reports he didn't have a good start to his commute home: He dropped his phone and then some guy on a bike plowed right into him.

The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded at 7:05 p.m. Friday to Bailey's Coin-Op Laundry, 1135 Harrison Ave. for what turned into a two-alarm fire that started in a dryer.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 damage, the department says.

The BPDA board yesterday approved two projects that would mean hundreds of new residential units and retail space on Harrison Avenue.

Winning board approval: A 650-apartment complex stretching from Harrison to Albany between East Canton and East Dedham streets and a 324-unit building with both apartments and condos on Harrison between Traveler and East Berkeley. Read more.

The Zoning Board of Appeals today approved plans to convert the top three floors of the century-old Verizon switching station at Harrison Avenue and Essex Street into 46 apartments. Read more.

A man turned up with at least three stab wounds on Harrison Avenue between Bennet and Nassau streets shortly after 1 a.m. on Jan. 30. A passerby who found him walked him to the nearby Tufts Medical Center. Police were unable to determine exactly where he had been stabbed.

Boston Police logs for Chinatown show that around 1:10 a.m. on Tuesday, officers on patrol found one man on the ground being kicked in the head by another man on Harrison Avenue at Oxford Place. Read more.

A squicked out citizen files a complaint about the "serious cockroach problem" on the Harrison Avenue block just south of East Berkeley:

Every night I walk home from parking my car I have never seen so many on the sidewalks and street. And it only seems to be that one block.

Well, at least they're not flying.

Sgt. Luke Taxter at District D-4 reports an 18-year-old was shot around 1:25 a.m. yesterday at 647 Harrison Ave. She's expected to survive. Two cars were also hit.

Nordblom has filed formal plans with the BRA to build offices atop an existing parking garage at Harrison Avenue and Herald Street and to make renovations to the current building next door to create a new matched set of office buildings on the block. Read more.

370-380 Harrison Avenue in Boston's South End

The company that now owns the former Quinzani Bakery and Ho Kong Bean Sprout buildings on Harrison Avenue in the South End today unveiled plans for 14-story building with 280 apartments and condos and ground-floor commercial space.

Related Beal's proposal for 370-380 Harrison Ave., filed today with the BRA, also calls for a three-deck, 180-space underground garage on the one-acre site. Read more.

Sampan reports developers recently showed residents plans for a hotel at 15 Harrison Ave. at Beach Street with 126 rooms and 6 suites. The hotel would not have a kitchen or restaurant, as a way of encouraging guests to explore the neighborhood.

At the other end of Chinatown, a different set of developers have BRA approval for a hotel with tiny rooms at Tremont and Stuart streets.

Leggatt McCall yesterday filed formal plans with the BRA for a two-building, 710-unit apartment complex it wants to build between Harrison Avenue and Albany Street and E. Dedham and E. Canton streets. Read more.

Proposed Harrison Avenue condos in the South End

A Natick developer has filed plans to turn the Immaculate Conception Church at 771 Harrison Ave. into 63 condominiums to be called the Cosmopolitan.

Unlike the Holy Trinity project on Shawmut Avenue, however, developer Ronald Simons's plans show the exterior of the church remaining largely the same. The proposal does call for roof terraces and skylights. Read more.

Police have taped off the Goodwill parking lot at 1010 Harrison Ave. after discovering a body there.

UPDATE: Associated Press reports a man was sleeping under a tractor trailer there and that the driver did not see him when he began to drive away.

Japanese hot-pot place becomes Hong Kong restaurant for movie in Boston's Chinatown

What happened to the Japanese hot-pot place that used to be here?

So they're filming the Ghostbusters remake in Boston, which, of course, has to stand in for New York, because, well, that's what the Keymaster demands or something. Today, a half block of Harrison Avenue at Essex was made more Chinatownier for the movie.
