If you don't live near Mansfield or Foxboro, you've probably never heard of Devin Romanul. Turns out he's a Democrat running against state Rep. Jay Barrows, one of our fair Commonwealth's few remaining elected Republicans. On Saturday, Romanul drove all the way up to Cambridge to be interviewed for Boston News Net, a weekly online video show videoed at Improv Boston. So, yeah, it's a comedy show. The beer-swilling "anchor" actually got into some issues with him, including asking him his position on pot-decriminalizing Question 2. He said he'll be voting "no," after which he was asked if he were high. "Oh, I wish it were so," he joked (the very next question: How long does he work on his hair?).

Outrage! GOP flackling Barney "Yes, he's my father" Keller thundered:

It sounds like Devin Romanul would be more comfortable in a frat house than the Statehouse.

Of course, Barn would know, given that he was president of a frat house himself - Phi Delta Theta at the University of Chicago - until last year (Scroll down on this page). But I'm sure it was one of those totally serious, "quiet" frats we read so much about. You know, something like this:

"The strangest thing that's happened to me so far was my experience at the [Phi Delta Theta] frat party," said Sugarman, recalling that a fraternity brother asked him if he wanted to shotgun a beer. "They stuck a key in the beer, and all of a sudden there were all these people around me, and a girl even took pictures with her phone."

But judge for yourself:

Dianne Wilkerson's campaign Web site is now www.diannedelivers08.com instead of www.diannedelivers2008.com, so don't even think of going to the latter, especially since the campaign simply pulled the plug on it, rather than doing anything so radical and risky as redirecting people who click there to the new site.

On Monday, the Herald reported the old site still listed endorsements from pols who no longer back Wilkerson, now that she's no longer the Democratic nominee for the 2nd Suffolk State Senate seat. The new site lost the endorsement list, along with the "20" in the URL.

Sonia Chang-Diaz, could be on her way as the first Latina-American to become a state senator, representing the 2nd Suffolk District of Roxbury, Dorchester, Mattapan, Jamaica Plain, Mission Hill and others.

Meanwhile, Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner (African-American) blasted the "Soon-To-Be" first ever Latina on her way to becoming the next State Senator; calling Chang-Diaz "A Non-Latina" with no kind of Latino blood background in her whatsoever.

Saturday, October 18th, hundreds of residents "spotted" the duo knocking on doors in Roxbury and Dorchester. Is that Sonia whatever-her-name-is? And is that MC Spice? The conversation is sparked, and the pitch to get support at the polls is made. Residents are wowed to have Ms. Diaz at their front door showing her normality and human side. Most were especially glad to see an old friend of the community supporting the Democratic nominee for state senate.

Chris Faraone reports on the "Hip-Hop Voter Registration Rally" at the Reggie Lewis Center yesterday:

... There were two women on stage at the Reggie Lewis Center who were heavy-handedly boosting the senator. One even taught the teens where to write "Wilkerson" on the ballot in case they are not given stickers. ...

Worth noting that the people opposing Question One are backed almost entirely by Big Government Unions.

The MTA and SEIU gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to the pro-tax movement.

No one should be shocked that government employee unions are fighting Question One to the death. If it passes they will lose their superhuman benefits and government perks that no one except the CEOs of AIG get.

In case you missed it, Yvonne Abraham yesterday had an interesting piece that raises the question of whose campaign is really for sale: Sonia Chang-Diaz, who took $500 from some woman in Cambridge, or Dianne Wilkerson, who took $7,000 from the management company at the Roxse Homes project (from which Wilkerson rents her campaign office)?

Michael Graham writes:

Everything you need to know about the so-called "Troopergate" story is in this excellent analysis from the always-reliable Jules Crittenden. Actually, what else does anyone need to know other than this fact from the Wall Street Journal's coverage:

The Tab reports that Barney Frank has two opponents in November: Your standard-variety Republican and Brookline resident Susan Allen, who blames the CIA for the World Trade Center attack, wants both McCain and Obama indicted, and hates the Guardian Angels. Earlier this year, she was unsuccessful in an effort to convince Brookline Town Meeting to pay workers in gold and silver, rather than in U.S. currency, and says the federal income tax is illegal.

The Globe covers yesterday's anti-income-tax rally in Boston (only 250 people?), while Yvonne Abraham heaps scorn on Carla Howell and her made-up figures about waste in state government.

A Proper Bostonian comes up with Swiftian reasons to vote for the measure (as in Jonathan, not Jane).

Michael Graham (yes, that Michael Graham), calls out the Globe over an editorial on Palin and rape kits in Wasila. Why, the Globe outright lies, he accuses.

By adamg - 10/4/08 - 4:46 pm

Despite what Sarah Palin was coached to say on Thursday seems to believe, Ronald Reagan did not come up with the idea of "the shining city on a hill."

Andrew J. Bacevich provides the history behind the phrase:

Basically, our own John Winthrop thundered it as the Puritans prepared to found Boston, and he probably would have sent Palin to the stocks (or worse) for suggesting his phrase meant to suggest "an America that is a beacon of democracy and tolerance and freedom and equal rights." Because Winthrop was a religious absolutist who brooked little dissent and was, in fact, warning his fellow Arbella voyagers in Boston Harbor that unless they held fast and created a theocracy doing as God told them to set an example for all mankind (i.e. a city upon a hill):

[T]he Lord will surely break out in wrath against us, and be revenged of such a people, and make us know the price of the breach of such a covenant.

The Globe reports the state Bar Counsel wants state Sen. Dianne Wilkerson disbarred, saying she lied under oath during a 2005 court hearing involving her nephew:

In both the court appearance and in the affidavit, Wilkerson falsely claimed that she was present at a Boston police station when two homicide detectives interviewed another relative, Isaac Wilkerson, about the 1994 stabbing death of Hazel Mack, the petition said.

The complaint now goes before the state Supreme Judicial Court.

Councilor Turner tells PoltickerMA that he doubts Sonia Chang-Diaz is really Latina and that her support really comes from white women who can't stand the idea that a black man could get into the White House instead of Hillary Clinton.

Needless to say, Turner is backing incumbent Dianne Wilkerson in her sticker campaign, calling her "a treasured resource" the 2nd Suffolk District - or rather, real blacks and Latinos in the district - can't afford to give up.
