The Boston Licensing Board this week granted valuable full-liquor licenses to several North End restaurants that say they need to fend off advances from fancier places on the waterfront.

But with only a total of ten of the new licenses to dole out - and several of those already awarded - the board also denied requests from several restaurants in the North End, on the waterfront and in some other neighborhoods. Read more.

Proposed new building in East Boston

Note use of exotic material known as "brick."

A developer has filed plans with the BRA to tear down three old buildings at Frankfort and Maverick streets to make way for a 23-unit residential building.

East Boston Management and Development LLC says the building, between the Maverick and Airport T stops, would include a 20-space garage and storage space for 30 bicycles. Read more.

But given that the car still has New York plates and inspection stickers, and given that this is Boston, we have a pretty good idea.

Car in the mud after crash in East Boston

617 Images captured the scene at Jeffries Point early Sunday after a car wound up in the mud in a low-tide Boston Harbor. Three people were injured in the crash, including the driver. Read more.

A man in prison for a 2012 stabbing in Marshfield was arraigned today for a brutal attack in a Jeffries Point vacant lot the year before that left his victim near death with permanent brain injuries. Read more.

Sparking car in East Boston

This surveillance video shows the car whose driver plowed through a fence and into the mud of low-tide Boston Harbor off Sumner and Marginal streets in East Boston early Sunday. The car, the tires on one side blown out, goes around the turn, then comes back, right before it leaves the road altogether.

Proposed Cunard Building in East Boston

The Zoning Board of Appeals today approved Philip Frattaroli's proposal to turn the shuttered Oscar's Woodworking building, 47 Webster St. into a restaurant with rooftop seating, a yoga studio and four residential units.

Frattaroli, who owns Ducali in the North End - and whose family started out in the restaurant business in East Boston - plans to call his gastropub Cunard Tavern, after both the shipping line and the tavern of the same name that used to be in East Boston.

Jeffries Point proposal

Two East Boston developers want to build 33 condos on what is now an overgrown old gas-station property at 320 Maverick St..

In their filing with the BRA, Joseph Ricupero and John Zirpolo said they would build 23 two-bedroom condos and 10 one-bedroom units, and provide 32 deeded parking spaces.

245 Sumner St. proposal

The BRA last night approved a developer's plans to tear down a small factory and warehouse at 245 Sumner Street and replace it with a 34-unit residential building that will also have retail space on the first floor.

The Residences at 245 Sumner, which represent the first major new development not directly on the waterfront, next go before the Zoning Board of Appeals on July 1 for its consideration.

Seven of the units will be set aside as "affordable."

Suffolk Downs COO Chip Tuttle estimated tonight his company has spent about $1 million trying to convince East Boston residents to vote in favor of a casino at his racetrack. Organizers of No Eastie Casino in turns told members of the Jeffries Point Neighborhood Association they have spent less than $30,000 on their campaign against the proposal.

Boston Police report they are looking for two men for a sexual assault early Monday in Jeffries Point.

Police say officers found the woman, with facial injuries, around 6 a.m. in the schoolyard of the McKay School on Cottage Street:

Boston Police report a woman was found "suffering from significant trauma and unresponsive" around 7 a.m. at 228 Webster St. in East Boston.

The woman, in her 20s, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both homicide and sexual-assault detectives are investigating, although police said they do not yet know if she was sexually attacked.

Adam Castiglioni reports the owners of Scup's in the Harbor in East Boston are looking for somebody to take over their operations due to a medical emergency - just as they were getting ready for their April 1 re-opening.
