Seems Marky Mark is back in his old hood, doing a movie in which he really stretches his dramatic wings and plays a gritty gun-toting tough guy with a Boston accent. One of the scenes in the Netflix-sponsored version of a "Spenser: For Hire" story (of course) called for snow. Kaw3589 reports the recreation of winter on Jones Hill this morning was "pretty damn spot on" - look at those space savers and the half-assed shoveling job for that half inch of snow.
Mark Wahlberg
Sean Burns, for one:
The movie spends so much time fellating its bogus hero, were it about an actual living person “Patriots Day” would feel like a North Korean propaganda film. ...
The filmmakers have no time for civilian heroes like Carlos Arredondo, who you surely remember as the man in the cowboy hat from that iconic finish line photo. Here he’s been erased from history to make more room to celebrate the phony white movie star hero.
Wicked Local Watertown reports the helicopter that buzzed the town awake early yesterday was hired by the production company making Marky Mark's Marathon-bombing movie. Back in February, the town asked the film company to find some other place to recreate the Watertown manhunt because it was just too soon.
Memo to every writer everywhere who would write more than one sentence about recovering thug Mark Wahlberg: HE'S NOT FROM SOUTH BOSTON and he did his maiming and rock throwing in Savin Hill, which is in Dorchester, which is an entirely different neighborhood.
Last week, we had some Columbia Journalism School graduate at the Daily Beast proclaiming Wahlberg grew up in "the rough Dorchester section of Massachusetts, otherwise known as 'Southie.' "
The Daily Beast recounts Mark Wahlberg's childhood and early thuggery, starting with:
Wahlberg grew up the youngest of nine children in a broken home in the rough Dorchester section of Massachusetts, otherwise known as "Southie."
We should probably forgive them, though, since they're based in the rough Manhattan section of New York State, otherwise known as "Philadelphia."
The former punk who made good continues to generate controversy with his pardon plea. Sarah Francis, who lives in Dorchester, has started an online petition urging the parole board to reject the former Marky Mark's petition:
This just in from Governor's Councilor Michael Albano, who represents the western part of the state:
[Albano] stated he was "favorably inclined" to approve a Pardon for Hollywood superstar Mark Wahlberg.
NECN reports the OFD actor thinks his lifetime of good works, church going and acknowledging the savage, racist beatings that left one of his victims blind in one eye are reason enough for a pardon. Also, wiping the criminal conviction off his record would help him get the "concessionaire's license" that would help him with his hamburger business.
Variety reports A&E has pulled "Breaking Boston" - after the first episode.
Teamsters Local 25, which Mark Wahlberg wants to do a reality show about, issued a press release acknowledging its troubled past, but says that's just not them anymore:
Acknowledging that some critics would say the organization as a whole has had a storied past, [local President Sean] O'Brien said that his union has worked hard to restore a level of integrity and professionalism that is shared throughout the 11,000 member organization. "The Teamsters Local 25 members of today are proud, hardworking citizens of the community. We take pride in being a voice for working people."
Charlestown Patch reports Mark Wahlberg is working on a Charlestown-based reality series about members of the local Teamsters untion.
Our own homegrown tough guy and Whitey wannabe is now apologizing for saying if he'd been on Flight 11 out of Logan on 9/11 - like he was originally planning to be - things would have turned out differently.
