Stop & Shop is recalling tuna salad that might have listeria mixed right in.

Listeria generally doesn't bother otherwise healthy, non-pregnant people, but can cause serious problems in the very young and very old, people with compromised immune systems and pregnant women.

Last week:
Roll-up listeria at Roche Bros.
E. coliburgers at Whole Foods.

Third Decade reports:

While walking through the produce area of the South Bay Stop & Shop I saw a man in his late-30s to early-40s walk up to the avocados and make the sign of the Cross before picking one.

CDG suggests the Old Connecticut Path Stop & Shop test employees on simple math, so when she hands over 17 soda bottles, she gets back 85 cents and no lip from the customer-service cashier who seems unable to fathom that a cash register could be wrong.

Sarah confesses and explains:

... Sure, I have brief flings with Russo's and Shaw's. But in the end Stop and Shop is like that deadbeat boyfriend you can't seem to break up with because the relationship is just so convenient.

But I have a confession to make. There is another contender in the mix.

Sometimes ... just SOMETIMES ... I go to Hannaford. ...

It was more than Gienna could stand: The kid stacking the packaged salad greens at her local Stop & Shop had his pants somewhere well south of his hips, letting her see just what kind of cotton undies covered his butt:

... "Pull your pants up," I said.

"What?" he said.

"I said, '"PULL YOUR PANTS UP."' ...

Chris Monks is in heaven now that his local Stop & Shop has installed self-checkout lines:

... You haven't really lived until you've grocery shopped without any human interaction. It's so freeing. There's no need to worry about having to suffer through some small chit-chat with a store employee, or accidentally offending someone by referring to them as Indian when in fact they are Pakistani. (I still say that if that info was on their name tags it would save everyone a lot of trouble). ...

TC photographs the manger scene the McGrath Highway Stop & Shop has set up - on the meat counter:

... If PETA is right, does that mean that Stop & Shop gets smited when the Second Coming occurs? Is it an offering - should I be placing beef jerky in front of creches that I pass?

Lewis Forman has a list of suggestions, including:

... Provide a discount for using the automated system since we're not interrupting your high school employees from talking about that "silly bitch at the party was totally all over him". ...

Marc Stober, a programmer, concludes that the problem with those stupid card readers at Shaw's and Star Market is not stupid programming but bad hardware:

... Theoretically you can touch "Yes" on the touchscreen - I've actually gotten this to work before they started with the tape and notes–but the touchscreens are so flighty that it hardly ever reads your response (or reads it as "No"), so the only reliable way to complete the transaction is to use the Enter button. ...

Brian Kane reports he was too grossed out by the produce department at the Woburn Stop & Shop to ever go back:

... Containers of strawberries with visible mold. Rotten and rapidly decaying tomatoes and onions. Withered and spoiled green beans. This store is literally selling garbage and calling it "fresh produce". ...

Tim Jarrett cannot stand shopping at the Arlington Stop & Shop - lack of stock and poor service will do that to you. When he heard about a new Hannaford in Waltham, he was ecstatic - the Hannafords he'd been in down south were large, well-stocked stores. Sadly, reality intruded:
