The Massachusetts Appeals Court ruled today that Boston Police had the right to demote a police detective because of errors he made in two cases - including a violent Mission Hill attack and robbery in which he failed to interview suspect Edwin Alemany before Alemany went on to kidnap and murder Amy Lord just a few months later. A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Edward Alemany, 30, of murdering Amy Lord in July, 2013, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. The verdict means an automatic sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

Boston Police report a lieutenant and two sergeants up the chain of command from Det. Jerome Hall Brewster have been reprimanded for failing to ensure Brewster followed through in an investigation of Edward Alemany after he allegedly attacked a woman on Mission Hill. Alemany is now charged with kidnapping and murdering Amy Lord in July.

After Tuesday's murder of Amy Lord and the stabbing of a Gates Street woman also on Tuesday, Andrea Muccini, owner of Ultimate Self Defense, felt moved to help. "It's awful and frightening and we want to do this for our community," say Muccini.
Self defense classes will be offered on Mondays and Wednesday from 7pm-8pm at the dojo (12 B Street) for the month of August.
Officials today released some details of what they said was one of Amy Lord's final hours before her murder yesterday in Hyde Park.
Boston Police report arresting Edwin Alemany, 28, for a stabbing attack early this morning on Gates Street in South Boston.
Police say the victim told officers he had been following her before she was attacked. "The victim was able to break free and escape from the suspect. The suspect fled toward Dorchester Street."
Officials say that Alemany has yet to be charged with Amy Lord's death - or a third attack on a woman in South Boston.
The Globe reports the woman whose body was found in Stony Brook Reservation yesterday was kidnapped and forced to withdraw money from ATMs before she was stabbed to death.
