In light of the recent attacks to women in South Boston, Ultimate Self Defense is offering free classes for women in the neighborhood. After Tuesday's murder of Amy Lord and the stabbing of a Gates Street woman also on Tuesday, Andrea Muccini, owner of Ultimate Self Defense, felt moved to help. "It's awful and frightening and we want to do this for our community," say Muccini.
Self defense classes will be offered on Mondays and Wednesday from 7pm-8pm at the dojo (12 B Street) for the month of August.

I hate to be cynical and sound heartless, although...
I am cynical but not heartless, self defense classes wouldn't help in a situation like the one Amy Lord was involved in.
Do we know enough to know that?
She was beaten up in her building.
Also, other women were attacked that night and punched and stabbed.
Perhaps the greatest value of them is, however, learning that you can defend yourself. Confidence matters!
We do know that...
she got out of her car at least once giving her the opportunity to run away but she didn't.
You never know.
These classes aren't all about defensive tactics. Having the proper mindset can take you a long way during a potentially physical encounter.
Right on!
Right on!
Well, It's NOT going to make
Well, It's NOT going to make things worse!! At least SOMEBODY is makeing a proactive effort to help a womans odds in these situations. (applause)
