Colleen and Richard Labbe of Milton own the dog that was attacked by a coyote the other morning. She reports it was hardly a case of a dog being unleashed and going after the coyote as reported by police; in fact, the coyote attacked the dog in their backyard:

Our dog, Cally, was not on a leash because she was in our own, fenced-in back yard. In the early morning, my husband took her out to go to the bathroom. My husband was in the backyard as well. The coyote attacked our dog in the backyard and ran out of the gate and down the street, with her in its mouth.

Good Morning Gloucester reports the woman was sitting outside watching the stars early this morning when the coyote leaped on her:

She jumped to her feet and fought it back with her fists. She next grabbed a broom and in the process hit her truck’s key fob, which sounded the alarm. ... Lyn describes the coyote’s drool as smelling like foul meat and the fur as coarse and bristly. The drool was in her hair and took some time to wash out the smell.

Around 5:30 p.m., we were heading home from the supermarket (yeah, after kickoff). We were in the right lane inbound on Washington Street, coming up on West Roxbury Parkway. There, in the left lane, just standing there, looking down the road - but not at us - was a coyote.

I slowed, flashed my brights and it ambled off across the road and up into the woods on Bellevue Hill.

This afternoon, somebody called police to report a coyote was just lounging on her rear porch on the Arborway up near Centre Street in Jamaica Plain

Shortly before 7 p.m., a woman called in from one of the paths in Stony Brook Reservation near the George Wright golf course on the Roslindale/Hyde Park line: She was walking her dog when she noticed two coyotes were following them. Before police could arrive, however, two men in the area spotted her and escorted her to safety. No word if either of them was named Elmer.

UPDATE, 12:20 p.m.: After making its way back to the school yard and evading Animal Control and police, the coyote made its way up Norfolk to Hosmer Street. At some point in that trip, it was hit by a vehicle and wound up cornered in a rear yard, where it was captured.

Boston Police are monitoring a coyote that's been sauntering up and down Blue Hill Avenue by Walk Hill Street this morning. Around 11:30, the Mildred Avenue School was put into "safe mode" when the coyote entered the schoolyard - students were ordered inside, but otherwise went about their normal school day.

Fake coyote

We were headed south on the VFW Parkway the other day when, whoa, was that a coyote hanging out by the VA Hospital? We did a quick uey, pulled into the parking lot and discovered that, no, it was not a real coyote, just a plastic replica of one. Hokay.

Compare to this photo of a real coyote, taken on Friday in the Arboretum.

Sometimes it pays to get pissed off, but given the relative lack of lions around here, will coyotes recognize the scent?

Coyote enjoying a snack

Will Roseliep reports spotting two coyotes at Walter and Bussey streets by the Arboretum Friday night.

They were most definitely snacking on something - maybe a housepet, maybe some Slim Jims from a nearby c-store.

The Globe's resident crank would rather just kill them, no doubt with his bare hands (no, actually, he wants to blast them with a shotgun), which mystified Roseliep:

These guys looked so chilled, and weren't disturbed by my high beams ...why kill shoot them all when they obviously just want to live a quiet life amongst Roslindale/Newton/W. Roxbury residents?
