The Boston Public Health Commission relays the news, based on growing numbers of Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations in Boston, Revere, Chelsea and Winthrop.

Also at high numbers: Covid-19 viral particles in sewage at the MWRA's Deer Island plant, which has become a predictor of new cases in the coming couple of weeks. Read more.

MassBio announced today that Joe Boncore of Winthrop is stepping down as president, a year after he took the job after stepping down as state senator for the 1st Suffolk and Middlesex district, now represented by Lydia Edwards. He is setting up a consulting practice - and one of his first clients will be MassBio, which he will advise on "state and federal issues."

Live Boston has the scoop: When Bill Forry of the Dorchester Reporter tweeted last night that Kevin Hayden would soon address his supporters as the new permanent DA, somebody at Transit Police responded that Hayden didn't win so the election so much as the Globe, due to its last-minute stories on Ricardo Arroyo. Caroline Goggin at WHDH reports on an order by a Suffolk Superior Court judge today that orders BPD to release the redacted contents of a 2005 BPD file on an investigation into what Ricardo Arroyo did or didn't do to two fellow O'Bryant students in 2005. Arroyo, running for DA, says he didn't do anything and didn't even know there had been an investigation until the Globe contacted him this year.

With no opposition, City Councilor Lydia Edwards today became State Sen. Elect Lydia Edwards in the special election to replace Joe Boncore. Once she formally submits her resignation as councilor, the City Councilor can set dates for a preliminary and final election to fill the remainder of her two-year council term.
