Caroline Goggin at WHDH reports on an order by a Suffolk Superior Court judge today that orders BPD to release the redacted contents of a 2005 BPD file on an investigation into what Ricardo Arroyo did or didn't do to two fellow O'Bryant students in 2005. Arroyo, running for DA, says he didn't do anything and didn't even know there had been an investigation until the Globe contacted him this year.

Reading the list of redacted

Reading the list of redacted items on the order, it is clear that there was no real investigation that Arroyo could have been aware of.
What makes you think that?

The Survivor Spoke Up

What about the Survivor who spoke up? So we aren’t supposed to believe her.
I don’t think anyone really cares about these records anymore after she spoke up. Plus he comes from a political family.
17 years later she remembers being assaulted and she’s had to live with it while see him in the news often.
And we all appreciate her courage even though most electeds really do not seem worried about her.
According to the Survivor

According to the
SurvivorAccuser there was literally no assault that took place. What there was was a threatening email in her inbox. She thought Arroyo hacked into her account and sent it (which itself sounds strange... why break into someone's email account only to send an email back to it?). I suppose the redacted police records might explain what really happened there, if the police assigned a cyber-investigator to it.There's a lot of outrage over a story about a teenage boy having pestered a teenage girl for a blow job. That doesn't sound very out of the ordinary to me. It also doesn't sound like a crime.
The emails are pretty bad

If the Globe is to be trusted the emails he sent the woman were horrible. They are certainly something that the son of an elected official should know better than to write. (Or even to think.) Big red flag.
Of course, it's possible there are some other shenanigans happening. And when other people of that age do horrible things people are often quick to remind the world that teenagers are stupid and can change.
Bottle line is I wouldn't be able to vote for either of the candidates in good conscious. If I had to choose I'd probably go with Arroyo because I think giving police a pass on misconduct is the more serious offense.
Correction: "If the Globe

Correction: "If the
Globeteenage girl's IT knowledge is to be trusted the emails he sent the woman were horrible. "I am sure a lot of users here have been in a situation where someone is panicked, saying "My email's been hacked!!" and then someone looks at the headers and is like, "No it's just spam from a random server forged with your email address". Then the person is less panicked but still alarmed, "How did they break into my email address" and after a lengthy explanation they begin to understand that it's all just noise.
Myself I'm hoping Arroyo gets elected because I think as DA he'll do less to screw things up than he does in the City Council, where he's argued that holding an election would disenfranchise voters.

what are they releasing? the date and the incident number?
If you do not have the follow up report, or anything that indicates that he was notified of the charge, then it does him no good. Beyond that we still have her statement provided by her lawyer as to why the DA did not push forward. This changes very little, but i am sure that he will spin it however he chooses.

why did he hire a lawyer?

what high school kid hires a lawyer for "school related issues"? why would the lawyer decline to comment further, citing attorney-client privilege if this was about something other than these allegations?
I am not voting for Arroyo,

I am not voting for Arroyo, but this is just wackadoo. Hiring an attorney is not an admission of guilt. Hmm, why would the son of a politician hire an attorney to deal with an exam school matters? Probably because this became a school discipline matter. Rich white people hire attorneys for this all the time, you call them karens.

The issue is not that Arroyo retained an attorney.

And ironically, for a lot of people, it's not even about whether or not the SA claims are true.
It's the fact that Arroyo said he had NO EARTHLY IDEA about any allegations having been made against him in the first place. When that route didn’t work out, he tried to get away with blanketing the situation as a “school matter” just because his accuser was also classmate. If you’re having sit-downs with your lawyer and a detective in the sexual assault unit, then 1) it’s a little bit more than a “school matter” and 2) that’s not an encounter that you’re ever liable to forget.
If Arroyo had just denied the veracity of the allegations (while still acknowledging that he knew they existed), he probably would have been perfectly fine.

Arroyo would have to give permission for the attorney to speak to the media. The attorney isn't speaking because they can't.
Many city youth of color have attorneys when they're being targeted by schools. We frequently obtained counsel for high schoolers when I worked in community mental health. GBLS has a program specifically for this. There's ample research that students of color are viewed as older and less innocent than white students. It's pretty normal in my family's circles to consult with a lawyer the second the school says your kid has been bothering another kid, or they think the kid cheated on an assignment, or whathaveyou.
We're in the state with the highest per capita rate of reports to child "welfare" services. Schools routinely make reports rather than speaking with students and families about issues, saying "we aren't alleging abuse or neglect, but want to make sure the child is receiving appropriate services" and these are frequently screened in despite there not actually being law that allows DCF to investigate "this kid is having school issues" or "this kid seems depressed" since those aren't crimes. A family can end up in juvenile court really quick when the school sees them as a problem. This is way way way disproportionately students of color, of course. So yeah, these families seek out lawyers when the school starts in with them. I would too.
Attorney of family friend?

Attorney of family friend? What capacity was he acting? Seems like a sketchy explanation.

Neither side is covering themselves in glory here. Even if it was not a crime, it seems Arroyo was pretty awful to a classmate and then bullied her about afterwards. Now it sure seems like he’s lying about being questioned about it at the time.
Hayden seems to be leaking sealed records and otherwise using his office for political gain, which is probably criminal, and definitely disqualifying for public office.
If it were up to me, no matter who wins, they would be impeached immediately. The Globe has been an eager tool for mudslinging in this campaign, I hope they are also trying to get Healy and the new DA candidates to weigh in.
Why Did Arroyo Leave Invalid Endorsements on His Campaign Site?
By anon

A number of endorsements for Arroyo were withdrawn on Wednesday. (Wu, Warren, Pressley, Markey). Why did it take until Sunday for Arroyo to remove their names from the list of those endorsing him on his campaign website?
