Call him Slots DeLeo

Proposes two casinos and slots at racetracks; unclear if he wants to put a casino AND slots at Suffolk Downs, which would thrill Tom Menino to pieces.
David Guarino, who knows something about legislative battles over gambling (as former PR guy for former Speaker DiMasi), considers what DeLeo will have to do to flip those reps who voted against casinos last time around.

Ugggh!
I hate the idea of gambling in MA, but if it came to pass, I could understand it.
Racinos, though? I HATE THE IDEA.
Oh, and is this the future of MA gambling:

Probably.
Racing
Racinos! I like the sound of that. I'm also all for casinos in MA. I can not see the difference between a casino and the local bar that has KENO and all sorts of scratch tickets for sale. State gambling already exists, might as well take it to a level where it isn't just corner stores and neighborhood bars that benefit from it. Plus, it could make Suffolk Downs a destination again, bring in resturaunts, music, etc.
For the record, I don't even gamble, but if people enjoy that kind of entertainment, I say why not keep them here in the area.
Where would those restaurants
Where would those restaurants go, though? The area around Suffolk Downs is either protected, as with Belle Isle Marsh, completely industrial, as with 1A, or housing/the only grocery stores in the area.
At the moment, Suffolk Downs is not doing well so obviously people aren't "enjoying" gambling and should we, in the economic crisis that we are experiencing at the moment, really encourage people to part with more of their money at a place where the odds are entirely stacked against them?
