Police: Man steals car, goes on high-speed joy ride that ends in South End crash and death of the guy he took with him
Boston Police report Warren Tyler took advantage of a motorist leaving his car running at a gas station to steal the car, then go on a short joy ride that killed one man and sent Tyler and a truck driver in the hospital last night.
Tyler, 44, of Randolph, is charged with stealing the car around 11:45 p.m. from the Citgo station at 3050 Washington St in Roxbury. Not long after the owner reported the car stolen, police say, an officer leaving the District D-4 station in the South End saw the car "traveling at a high rate of speed with no head lights illuminated."
Police took off after it, then noticed smoke at the intersection of Harrison and Berkeley:
Officers approached that intersection and there observed a motor vehicle accident involving the stolen motor vehicle and a delivery truck. Officers immediately requested EMS to the scene and approached the accident scene and looked inside the stolen car. Inside the stolen car, officers observed the operator of the car slumped over the wheel and a passenger who appeared to be suffering serious head and chest injuries in front passenger seat. Officers next approached the delivery truck and found a victim seated in the back of the truck bleeding from the head.
Tylerr's passenger was pronounced dead at Boston Medical Center. The truck driver, who was in the back of his vehicle at the time, was taken to Tufts Medical Center with non-fatal facial and head injuries. Tyler was taken to Boston Medical Center with head and leg injuries.
Tyler faces charges of receiving a stolen motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a revoked licens and possession of crack cocaine.
Innocent, etc.

Motor vehicle homicide?
I saw that BPD update. If the passenger died of wounds sustained in the crash as a direct result of Tyler's driving, then why wasn't he also rung up on MVH too?
I also liked the other BPD news item that came out from last night around the same time. A man jumped into the back seat of a car that had a driver and a passenger waiting at a light or something on Quincy St in Dorchester. He was keeping his left hand inside his coat pocket. The driver spun around and pulled a gun on the carjacker and requested backup from the local district. It was an off duty officer that the idiot tried to carjack. Haha.
